It only runs as you're using the spray gun, and shuts off as soon as it reaches the desired pressure. It's important to have the hose connected tight, though, because if you have any air escaping, it will cause it to start running when the airbrush is not in use. I LOVE this outfit. It's the best money I've spent. **Q: How loud is it? Can you hear it next door?** A: ShrinkDave, the airbrush machine is not loud. Depending on the type of wall, you will not hear it. My mother-in-law uses in bedroom, and it is not heard from living room. Distance is approximately 10 ft. **Q: Does the compressor operate at international voltage (220-240V)?** A: I cannot find a switch on the power supply to switch it to 220, and I see no signs that it can run at higher than US voltage. **Q: Is this compressor made by Paasche?** A: No, it is supplied by the vendor, TCP Global. I don't think Paasche makes them either.
