You will see and feel the difference in less time and see the color of the water change. **Q: Can these be ground to a powder in a spice grinder?** A: I would suggest drying them more in a low heat oven or dehydrator. They come very pliable and may need additional moisture remove to convert to powder **Q: How much does a rehydrated ounce equal? I have a recipe that calls for 1 Cup rehydrated mushrooms.** A: I don't know the first part because I have never measured it. What I would do to get a cup of mushrooms would be to fill up a cup halfway up with water or stock and then add mushrooms until the liquid reaches the top of the cup. I would then transfer it to a pot and add some more liquid and simmer away. This should do the trick. I wasn’t expecting big things from a dried mushroom, but the texture was really nice. I sautéed them. Pretty good flavor but I did use a touch of Adobo seasoning which made the taste really pop. I cannot wait to get some fresh ones. I tried chicken of the woods recently, and they really do taste like chicken. I’m hoping some fresh ones have just a slightly better texture and taste.
