Question 1

What is difference between this one and blue North American clock?

Accepted Answer

The USA appears to be the only country in the world where many organizers routinely request that you bring your own equipment, so I would not worry much about taking your clock to a tournament abroad, more likely than not, sets and clocks will be supplied there. For the casual blitz games with a friend, it makes sense to use DGT NA, as it is cheaper, while blitz functionality is about the same. Both DGT 3000 and DGT NA support US version of time delay, which is important in US tournaments. DGT 3000 is better in that respect, since it actually displays delay count down, while NA doesn't have this functionality. That feature was important for me as a player and made me I switch to DGT 3000. A from NA. Also, as previously already mentioned, if you own DGT sensory board and want to broadcast your games (time) to the internet, you will have to use DGT 3000, it can be plugged into the board, DGT NA doesn't have this feature.

Question 2

Can you play games under 5 minutes with this clock?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely!! As a matter of fact, there are several different time controls that are available for you to use. By default, many of the clock times are pre-set. You can also manually decide which time you would prefer and save them into your personal settings. E.g. 3 minutes, 3+2, 1 minute, etc..

Question 3

Max game time? can i program this for 8 hrs? it's to track billable work hours, not chess (sadly :) ) if not, other suggestions?

Accepted Answer

Not sure what you mean. But you can easily set up the clock to 8 hours. Here you can download the full manual of the clock: http://www.digitalgametechnology.com/index.php/support1/manuals/clocks/dgt3000/271-dgt-3000-manualSo you can make sure if that is what you want. With best regards

Question 4

Can you play against a chess engine with this clock like you can when the dgt pi is connected to a dgt board?

Accepted Answer

Nop! DGT Pi is actually a DGT-3000 with larger enclosure so DGT can put a Raspberry Pi in it. That is why it is called DGT Pi. The chess engines are running on the Raspberry Pi, not the clock itself.
