This delicious boneless, salt cured Virginia ham is fully cooked and needs no further preparation or cooking. Open and Start Slicing. Serving size 1-2 ounces. Serve hot, room temperature, or chilled. A true Southern traditional ham. "This item was purchased as a gift for my Mother. She has done nothing but rave about the ham since it arrived. A true Virginia Ham. Virginia Gourmet Petite Country Ham is no ordinary supermarket ham. It is Artisan quality, and dry cured the way the Colonists did at the time our country was founded. You will find that this ham is different from your regular supermarket ham. Country ham is a variety of cured ham, typically very salty. Country ham involves a method of dry curing and smoking done in the rural parts of the South. The ham is not injected with water, so you get more ham for your money. To thoroughly enjoy this ham, simply remove it from the wrapping, thinly slice and eat. No need to soak(soak only if too salty, or not moist, for your taste) or cook further. We recommend serving size 1-2 ounces, that you slice it paper-thin or shave thin, place the ham on a biscuit, and enjoy it with a little honey, chutney, preserves, or mustard. You may also use the ham to flavor omelets, salads, pastas, soups, etc. If you want, you may gently heat the ham but it is not necessary.

**Q: did it taste salty and how do you prepare it? how many people did it serve?**
A: It's more salty than regular boiled ham, but not much.  To prepare:soak ham in cold water for at least 24 hrschange water at least 5 timeswith a stiff brush remove all pepper and mildew on hamplace ham in large cooking pot and cover with watersimmer slowly, not boil, for as many hours as it takes to get a meat thermometer to reach 165FIt's now "done".  You can glaze the ham with 3T brown sugar, 1C Coca Cola, 2T yellow or brown mustard, 1/2 C plain bread crumbs and enough water to spoon over ham.Preheat oven to 375F, place ham in large pot or cookie sheey with raised edges for 5 minutes.Then spoon on glaze and return to oven for additional 15 minutes.You can slice the ham in many different ways.  Some cut the ham in half and saw through the bone.  Others, including Europeans, thinly slice the ham lengthwise starting on the meatier side an go all the way down to the bone, turn it over and do it again.

A: No.  They are currently running about 3.25 pounds on average.  We don't know how many we be able to provide this season, but it could be less than last year so don't delay and order today.

A: This is a dry cured ham like they did in the colonial days.  They did not have refrigeration back then.  We post a conservative guideline of 10 days non-refrigerated, 8 Weeks Refrigerated, 6+ months Frozen on the product page.

### ⭐ A Holiday Disappointment

The ham was the protein centerpiece of a small Thanksgiving dinner. I removed the ham from the cryovac and all looked normal. This ham is labeled as cooked and ready to eat but I wanted to heat it up for service. I carefully wrapped it in foil and heated it at 325 degrees for approximately 50 minutes. Using a IRT, I "temped" it and it was right at 135 degrees. Placed it on the cutting board and let it rest for about 5 -10 minutes. Placed it flat end down and prepared to slice it for service. As per directions, I was attempting to slice very thin. As the heated ham started to cool it also started to unravel? It did not appear to be a whole part of shank meat. It completely separated and left a small piece of ham in the center while the remainder unwrapped into a flat piece of meat. I apologize for not taking a picture but I was still believing all was well. Slicing across the grain as best I could and it was still a fatty mess. I managed to get a few pieces ready for service and I decided to taste test a smaller piece off the cutting board. Terrible taste and too salty to be palatable. I served it. I should have pitched it. In the trash. I "chunked up" the remainder (which was about 75% of the ham) and decided to use it for ham soup. (Yeah, a darn expensive soup at over sixty bucks for the ham!) I'm only now reviewing this because the ham also ruined ham and Navy bean soup. I had never experienced a failure to make ham soup out of leftovers prior to this! There was zero amount of water I could've added to my soup to save it. A total holiday disappointment for sure.
