It is solid wood, so heavy. No strange odor or damage to product. It is a bit difficult to put together solo, and I suggest a drill (it may have been lacking a hole or two???), but should be a breeze with a partner. Looks great stained, but beware that there could be glue on the wood, I suggest some light sanding. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As Described. I am not a handy person, so I sent it to a finisher to put on a "Natural" finish from General Finishes, along with a clear topcoat from General Finishes. I didn't want a stain because I like the light parawood grain very much. The finisher also put the bookcase together, because it would not have been easy or a lot of fun for me. One quibble is that they don’t use stainable wood fillers and glue. This becomes noticeable when that area won’t take stain. If you plan to paint or use a light stain, it won’t be noticeable. Or, you may dig a more “rustic” look. Luckily, the books hide the spots near the joints that didn’t stain properly.
