MI Redmi 4A (Gold, 16GB)

Guys this review is for all of you and very important. I am going to write this review after 12 hours of usage. So i got this mobile on 30th March sale on amazon and product delivered on 7th April at Rs. 5999+1=6000 INR. Redmi 4A is a good looking mobile phone(I got the golden one). It charged 100% in about 3 hours. I charged it 100% at 8 pm on 7th April. now it's 8th April at 10:32 am it's 83% battery is remaining and I used it for 3 hours on wifi + songs(low usage). [Edited on 9th April- I plugged charging at morning 5:20 it was 12% and at 7:20 it was charged 92% means 80% in 120 minutes.] It's RAM shown 2 GB and we got 1 GB free RAM (It's not bad at this price). It's Internal storage shown 16 GB and we got free 8.5 GB (So if you are thinking that you are gonna get 15-16 GB free storage then it's not the phone you are looking for). This phone has a screen without any protection, so kindly don't try to make any drop test. so use a screen protection like a tempered glass for this (Or your wish if you have so much money then go for gorilla glass phones). Phone is smooth as I upgraded to MIUI 8.2.6 it was 8.1.4 before upgrade. This phone has many useful features, if you wanna buy a low budget phone which has good performance (Sorry I'm not talking for gamers because gamers must go for higher level phones). Redmi is like "Gareebon ka IPHONE" yes I agree with this statement. looking nice. camera quality is medium not the higher one (I don't use camera much, there is no girl to impress :P). for medium users who like only surfing facebook,whatsapp, and some low level games like teen patti ,etc will work fine. Now, this phone has a hybrid sim slot (1 sim + 1 sim OR 1 sim + 1 SD card ). but you can go for a jugaad to make it 2 sims + 1 SD card (but be careful the sim tray could break so i'll not suggest you this but still you can watch youtube videos). Now, Overall I will rate this phone 4 out of 5 not because it has any limitations (It's a china product right, I know it's manufactured in Andra Pradesh,India but still it's a chinese company) Indian companies can't do any such a great job (Jobless India , There are many engineers in India but they are not getting any opportunity). if you are having a poor financial background then guys surely go for this product and if you are comparing this one with 3s then don't compare this is a latest model by xiomi (No phone is there without any problems even Iphones also having some problems). so guys for 3s you'll have to pay 1000 Rupees more and I think there is no such a big difference in these two phones. and after all we must consider the price while comparing. [Edited on April 9th -I forgot to write about packaging by amazon so it was so bad, RIP to packing by amazon]. on 4th April's sale i tried but unfortunately couldn't order a 2nd phone. I tried for 3s sale on flipkart and after 5-10 seconds they shown "sold out" samajh nhi aaya ek hi product tha shayad :D because 5 mbps plan se mne bhi try kiya tha. But, I request amazon to not to sale the mobile through chrome browser because all the sellers are making frauds there and buying all the products and selling them for 7k or 7.5k . The phone is good for the price (only if u get a discount offer of 10-15%) as redmi 3s is just 1k more (also sometimes 10% off on it as well) and is lot better in many terms like - 1) Camera : Both have same pixel capacity but redmi 3s have lot better camera than Redmi 4a both front and rear are better (I have 3s prime) 2) Processor : Redmi 3s have Octa core SD 430 processor while Redmi 4a have Quad core SD 425 processor and Gpu is also better on Redmi 3s Adreno 505 v/s Adreno 308 on Redmi 4a 3) Body : Redmi 3s have a good metal body v/s plastic body of Redmi 4a and Redmi 3s looks sleeker than redmi 4a 4) Battery : Huge difference in battery 1000mah (Redmi 3s 4000mah v/s Redmi 4a 3000mah) 5) Charger : You will get 2A charger with Redmi 3s while only 1A charger with Redmi 4a 6) Software : Both got MIUI 8 but Redmi 3s will soon be updated to MIUI 9 not sure about Redmi 4a 7) Speaker : Redmi 3s have bit louder speaker than redmi 4a 8) Double Tap : Redmi 3s don't have double tap while Rdemi 4a have double tap feature to wake screen 9) Heating issue : Redmi 4a heats up during short usage as well i guess due to quad core processor So these are the main issues which i faced after using the phone for some days. Redmi 4a is not a bad phone but when you compare it with another phone of same brand then you have to think why you shall buy this or that not. But I hope this review will help you decide to purchase Redmi 4a or Redmi 3s both are good devices by Xiaomi. Thanks for reading :)

Alright, I read a lot of comments by other people and many are of the opinion that it's a "fraud" or "fake" flash sale. It's not, though. Just because you couldn't secure a phone for yourself in this mad rush, don't give wrong reviews or information. It is a completely genuine and legal flash sale and you gotta fight for securing a phone for yourself, or try for a few more days. That's all the struggle there is to it. Getting that out of the way, people said they received defective pieces. Well it is your bad luck then, because I got a beautiful white piece and it is at the apex of its performance. Coming to my reviews about the phone, I think it is a total value for money. It looks nice, has a metallic back and works just fine or should I say, has been working just fine till now (It's two days old btw). It has no menu list as such, every icon to every app is right there on the screen itself. It has a smooth interface. And everything else is just like an android phone. Coming to my favourite part: You can actually delete all the pre-installed apps. For example, in any Sony Xperia phone, you can't delete any app which is an authentic Sony app like Sony Music, or Sony Movies, etc. But in this phone, you ca delete any official MI app which you find useless. So that's pretty cool. However, there are a few cons as well: Firstly, there are no headphones. Well, not like I was expecting an extra pair of headphones at this price, but I was expecting one like a free product, but well MI didn't give any with this mobile model. Second and the bigger con, YOU CAN'T USE THE DUAL SIM FEATURE IF YOU INSERT A MEMORY CARD. In other words, it's an option between "dual sim card" and "one sim card and memory card". To explain better, you either put in two sim cards or you put in one sim card and a memory card, but never two sim cards and one memory card. I found this highly disappointing and something which they should have mentioned in the specifics of the phone. But well, we have to ignore a lot of things because of the features of the phone compared to the price. It's not highly disappointing but really satisfactory.

Introduction It is nothing out of the usual to praise Xiaomi for its great value offers. If you can get around the potential caveats of availability and support outside of the brand's traditional Asian markets, the China-based OEM typically has great options worth exploring in every category. With an asking price of about $100, the Redmi 4a is obviously at the very bottom of the company lineup - which pretty much equals the lowest there is in the smartphone food chain. But, let's get one thing straight right off the bat - a lower price point doesn't necessarily imply top value. For better, or worse, the Redmi 4a provides the perfect illustration of that. Here's what we're dealing with. We don't think this disclaimer is even needed but Xiaomi's entry level should be pretty much under most people's radar. It would've slipped under ours too was it not for a sudden spike in popularity in our charts. So, we're dealing with the low-cost alternative of an entry-level phone. Can it get any less exciting than this? Oh well, just to put things into perspective, the Xiaomi Redmi 4a is basically the same package as a Sony Xperia E5 or a Samsung Galaxy J5. You can bet these two sold by the millions, so it's a fair bid by Xiaomi to try and emulate that in emerging markets. And why not - at nearly half the price. Just for the record, it's not the basic specs or low asking price that get the Xiaomi Redmi 4a the short shrift. And no, we are not dropping our usual in-depth reviews, so don't panic. Our goal is to give you our impressions of the phone in a concise form, without sacrificing the detailed performance review and the full test results. We hope you enjoy it. Hardware overview So, is there value to be had in owning the entry-level Xiaomi Redmi 4a? The phone was released in Xiaomi's home market at the end of last year but a belated premiere outside China has put it back in the spotlight - particularly in the emerging Indian market where it seems to be in pretty high demand. For one, the Redmi 4a feels pretty sturdy and well built. Naturally, it is plastic all around but the finish gives a convincing impression of metal. The unibody design is even complete with a pair of grooves that resemble antenna strips. They are purely cosmetic, but reinforce the overall illusion of a metal chassis. The rear is pretty clean and simple. There is a single speaker grille near the bottom and the 13MP sensor is placed behind a pretty compact f/2.2 lens. There is no fingerprint reader - a notable omission compared to the standard Redmi 4. It's one of the sacrifices Xiaomi had to make in the name of ultimate savings. The mono speaker on the Redmi 4a seems to be identical to that on the regular Redmi 4 and the 4 Prime. That is to say, it is not particularly loud and only scored an Average score in our tests. The front of the device follows the minimal, low-cost styling. The screen is a 720p unit, which seems the straightforward choice in this price bracket. The front is quite scratch-prone, even though Xiaomi claims it used some sort of reinforced glass other than the popular Gorilla Glass varieties. Our review unit managed to pick up a few marks from just lying around and the mostly indoor use during testing. A screen protector should be one of the first things on a new user's list. The three capacitive keys below the display work perfectly fine, but the lack of backlighting is a bit of a disadvantage. Not a big deal but you'll have to rely on habit in the absence of visual aids. Xiaomi might have found those three particular LEDs a bit too pricey to include but, ironically, they left the IR blaster from the rest of the Redmi 4 line intact, at the top side of the device. Perhaps it would have cost more to redesign the frame and remove the cutout than to just leave the emitter in. In any case, you can pick a Redmi 4a up as an overdesigned universal remote to use around the house. But seriously, the IR is nice to have. Speaking of LEDs, there is also a notification LED underneath the Home button. An unusual position for sure, but still a welcome touch on such a cheap device. There is a 3.5mm audio jack and that's one thing the flagship Mi 6 can't match. It's at the top of the device, next to a secondary noise-canceling microphone. The bottom features the main microphone and a microUSB port. You'll be happy to learn it is OTG-enabled. As for the sides, there is a very standard arrangement including a volume rocker and a power button on the right and only a card compartment opposite. It has a total of 2 slots: a micro and a nano SIM. The latter is a hybrid, so you can opt for a microSD storage card in it instead. Both SIM slots are 4G-enabled, but only one can be active at a time. Besides LTE, the Redmi 4a also comes with VoLTE support out of the box. In case you are wondering, this includes Reliance Jio as well. It even supports Band 5, which is widely used in India. And while we are at it, the Redmi 4a has the connectivity basics covered. There is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n on board (single-band, nothing fancy), Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP and LE and A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, for navigation. NFC is a notable omission. Then again, we hardly see that on Redmi devices to begin with. On the other hand, Xiaomi has thrown in an FM radio receiver, for some old-school offline audio entertainment. For wired connectivity, the Redmi 4a has a traditional microUSB connector, with a USB 2.0 controller behind it. Since the storage in the handset isn't all that fast either, anything beyond that in terms of bandwidth would have been overkill anyway. One thing we really do wish made the cut is fast charging, though. The Redmi 4a comes with a 1A basic charger in what's a pretty basic retail package, as you would expect. Besides the charger, there is also a USB cable, a SIM ejector and some leaflets. Battery The Xiaomi Redmi 4a is powered by a 3,120mAh battery. It is a sealed-in pack, and it's pretty slow to charge up. We can't help but feel that Xiaomi crippled its capacity in order to save on costs, rather than just for space, as is usually the case with today's smartphones. The regular Redmi 4, as well as the Redmi 4X both have 4,100mAh battery packs. With a size of 139.2 x 70 x 8.7mm and 139.9 x 70.4 x 8.5mm for the 4X and 4A, respectively, we definitely think cutting the capacity was a market decision more than anything else. And, as expected, the Redmi 4a definitely suffers for it. It managed to score a 67 hour endurance rating in our battery test - a far cry from the whopping 119 hours of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 or the 91 hours of the Redmi 4 Prime. Both handsets have 4,100mAh battery packs at their disposal, as well as the 14nm Snapdragon 625, which has proven its power efficiency time and time over. Even the MediaTek Helio X20 version of the Redmi Note 4 managed to squeeze an 83 hour rating out of its 4,100mAh battery. A less efficient Snapdragon 425, working its four cores overtime to keep up with the load, plus a smaller 3,120mAh battery pack really turned out to be a recipe for an average battery life. It's another significant deduction from the already dwindling value score of the Redmi 4a. Display Much to our surprise, the 5-inch 720p panel on the Redmi 4a turned out to be pretty decent. It seems the LCD unit was mostly spared from the cost-cutting, but sadly the same can't be said about its protective layer. Xiaomi claims it is some sort of hardened glass but, as we said earlier, it really gives off a "plasticky" vibe - it doesn't provide smooth swipes and it's prone to scratches. As for the actual screen however, we've definitely seen worse and on much more expensive devices. It is not the brightest unit available, peaking at 475 nits and the higher light bleed in the blacks makes for a rather low contrast of 925. Still, to put the results into perspective, the Meizu M5s - one of the few competing offers in the ultra-budget segment- gives a pretty much identical performance. But then again, the Redmi 4 Prime and Redmi Note 4 both do notably better in the display department. The part we really found surprising was color accuracy on the Redmi 4a. Even the Standard color mode provides an average DeltaE of 4.5 out of the box and a maximum of 7.8. Whites are a little strong, which makes it slightly cold, but still, it's an overall quite accurate color-wise. Tweaking some of the ample display settings yielded even more impressive results. Using the Warm color mode results in an average deltaE of just 2.8 and a max of 6, again mostly due to a variance in white and grays. Bringing the brightness down from the 475nit maximum to 200nits corrected the white pretty well and left us with a very impressive average deltaE of 2.4 and a maximum of 4.8. Sunlight legibility is on par with similar devices, like the regular Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime. That is to say, it is not spectacular in any way, but still decent enough for outdoor use. The automatic contrast adjustment, baked into MIUI helps in this respect as well. Still, you should probably avoid direct sunlight. MIUI 8 Xiaomi's colorful Android ROM manages to save face big time when it comes to the Redmi 4a. In fact, if you really find yourself with only $100 to spend on a smartphone, MIUI 8 and its polished UX and abundance of features should be enough of a reason to shy away from the Doogees or Oukitels and towards the Redmi 4a. Just to be clear, we are in no way saying that the budget handset has what it takes to deliver a satisfying user experience. There is simply no escaping the feeble nature of its low-end quad-core chip, especially with today's resolution-rich multimedia and heavy Android applications. But we still have to give credit where credit is due, and commend Xiaomi's development team. They managed to get MIUI 8 running with very few stutters and slow-downs on such entry-level hardware. Surprisingly enough, the Android 6.0.1-based MIUI 8 ROM on the Redmi 4a is full-featured, or at least pretty close. There are a lot of baked-in Xiaomi goodies to enjoy. First off, is MIUI's signature flat style. It really looks gorgeous, even on this budget LCD, rendered at 720p. To sweeten the deal even further, the Redmi 4a can make use of Xiaomi's powerful Theme engine. This allows you to tweak pretty much every UI detail to your liking, and grants access to the rich online Theme repository.Granted, the LCD on the Redmi 4a is hardly the perfect canvas to enjoy a pretty UI on, but despite its limitations, Xiaomi has actually provided users with quite a bit of control to improve the overall visual experience. The contrast can be adjusted manually, or even dynamically, based on content and conditions. Speaking of which, the Redmi 4a also has automatic brightness. We are really happy to see the light sensor made the cut. Double-tap-to-wake is also among the baked-in options. You can play around with the color profile out-of-the-box, as well as the font size. Xiaomi has even thrown in a trendy and full-featured Reading mode. We find a similarly surprising feature-depth in almost every corner of the OS. The status bar, quick toggles, and notification shade can all be customized quite a bit. Battery percentage and data transfer indicators are some of the opt-in status bar elements and there is even a pair of visualization options for app notifications to choose between. As for the toggles and notifications, they can be separated out into panels, if that seems more convenient to you, or left in the same shade, as by default. And wouldn't you know it, the notification LED we mentioned in the hardware overview even has its own section in the settings menu. A small victory in the overall Redmi 4a picture, for sure, but we still can't help but appreciate that a sub $100 phone has a customizable RGB diode - a feature even flagships sometimes forget.Speaking of notifications, MIUI 8 offers in-depth control over each type of notification it supports on a per-app basis. This feature ties in really well as part of the automated Xiaomi security center. It is a no-frills, one-stop spot for cleaning your phone, protecting your data and preventing battery drain. Naturally, that includes a detailed permission manager too.hanks to MIUI 8, the Redmi 4a is also surprisingly well-equipped to handle sensitive data, protect business assets and even facilitate multiple communication channels. You can password-protect apps, or hide them altogether from kids with Child mode. Besides locking things up, you can branch out and quickly organize even more data and communications. The Redmi 4a supports both the Second space feature, for handling multiple independent workspaces, as well as Dual apps - particularly useful for logging on to two social accounts at the same time. Frankly, as you can see, it's very easy to get carried away exploring the delightfully rich settings menu of the Redmi 4a, which kind of clashes with the intentions we had with the brief review format. Just to add a few finishing touches to the already impressive UX picture, we can't fail to mention Lite mode, with its big and clean UI. he default app pack might be a bit extensive, but we think it complements the included Google suite pretty well. Today, after using the Redmi 4A for a month now and after going through possibly every single component of the phone, I'm going to post an in-depth review about the next big thing that comes from Xiaomi and is Made In India. Hardware & Build Unboxing the phone, my initial impressions were like it'd be like any other plastic made phone but Xiaomi surely got me wrong on this. The first time I took it in hand it felt light as a feather. God's sake I haven't felt a phone as light as this. The built was sturdy but smooth at the same time. The fluidness in the design theory of Xiaomi is omnipresent in the hardware of the phone & that you can experience. I got myself the gold version & trust me it looked pretty elegant in my hand. The design is done just right with the speaker grills placed at the bottom of the back panel and the 13MP camera sits right at the top left corner with thin linings to make it look more elegant. No distractions in between, just a simple MI logo above the speaker grills. Neat. There is not much to say about the front part of the device as it's the same as the mainstream models of Xiaomi and looks clean in a way. The screen looks good in low light & the viewing angles are great compared to my previous devices. The blue-light filtering is done right so that your eyes don't have to suffer in low light. Initial look at the screen would make it look very close to that of Apple's iPhone. The side panels of the phone looks sleek and also gives you a good holding grip. The volume keys & power button are intact & situated in the right panel whereas the SIM tray sits usual on the left side. Xiaomi's latest innovation at this price point is the IR Blaster which sits on the topmost panel besides headphone jack & the microphone & gives users extra-functionalities of a device remote. The USB type C port sits on the bottom most panel & is easily compatible with OTG cables to transfer files through pen-drives. Xiaomi's design theory is more of de-cluttering the less needed stuffs & that Xiaomi has done right in the Redmi 4A. UI The device runs on Xiaomi's latest flagship UI: MIUI8 and is by far the most aesthetically beautiful & fluid UI I'ver experienced in a phone. The company rolled out the latest update for Global ROM users & fixed quite a lot of bugs with the update. Xiaomi also calls it the 'Live UI' indeed it is, as Xiaomi regularly tweaks, develops & sends out update packages to it's users every month. Some say that the UI is a rip-off of the popular Apple UI, the iOS but what I've come to experience from a month long use is that the MIUI beats the iOS in certain factors of the UI game and also is one of the topmost UI you can find on a device running Android. The homescreen, the icons, the system app UI's are beautifully done & catches your view on the first use. Xiaomi has also embedded some great tools in the system UI like the scanner that scans QR codes, business cards to every possible document on Earth and gives you the option to save them digitally on your phone or in the Mi Cloud. The Calculator app comes added with extra functionalities like various convertors of currencies, weight etc, viable for what you pay. It also has an in-built Gyroscope so the compass app is a definite in MIUI8. The Notes app is revamped & gives you quite a lot of theme options to choose from. The Camera & Music app UI is done just right & so is the File Explorer which is sectioned into several categories & has added functionalities like zip extractor etc. Overall the UI is fluid & eye-catching and plays a pivotal role in Xiaomi's leading global presence. Battery & Performance The phone comes packed with a gigantic 3120mAH battery power and is more than enough at this price-point. Even phones offered at 10k or above these days don't offer such great battery life. For instance, when the phone came I charge it to 100% in an hour or two & the battery lasted around a day or two with heavy internet usage and music-video streaming. On a day's count with light usage, the batter is easily going to last for 4-5 days. So you don't need to worry about it if you're hooked on to your phone all day long like me. The phone also sports a Snapdragon 420 chip-set & the performance is fast as anything compared to my existing phones. All apps run quite well at a time given the 2GB RAM count. The phone also comes with Adreno 305 graphics and is good for you if you're a moderate gamer, eventhough I have heard from critics & reviewers all around that this phone is not for heavy gaming users & lags at times so maybe the story is partially true as I haven't experienced it myself. Once I'm done testing with the games, I'll post a short review about the gaming performance too. En masse, a smooth user experience at this price-point. Camera & Sound The Redmi 4A sports a 13-Megapixel CMOS rear camera with flash at the rear & 5MP front camera. As I mentioned earlier, the camera UI is done pretty well & has various modes like Manual (Professional Mode) Beautification etc. There's already pre-defined effects included in the app much similar to the iOS. The video camera lacks the Slo-Mo mode but comes with a time-lapse mode and it's all that included in it. Talking about the camera, the 13MP is just for namesake, even though the phone takes pretty good pictures in the daylight, the performance reduces fairly in low light mode. Once zoomed to the extent, you can experience quite a lot of noise in the picture & isn't that lively & dynamic given the count of pixels. Xiaomi could have done a better job tweaking the camera software with the hardware & used the camera too it's full potential but unfortunately it failed to do so this time. Those guys at Xiaomi really need to learn the art of making a great phone camera from the guys at Apple. It's not that the pics are below average, actually they are quite good & far better than camera phones at higher price points but Xiaomi could have done a bit better with the camera. Talking about the sound quality of the phone, it got me numb! These days a lot of Android users are going for tweaking to increase their phone's volume to maximum. I say if you're a Redmi 4A user just sit back & relax, you don't need to do that at all! The speakers are placed just right & the music effects are great at this price point. For instance, a song played at a full volume on the device is enough to turn the room into a party ambiance. That said, if you're a movie buff or just love to listen to music all the time, you should definitely opt for this device. It's like a mini-bluetooth speaker with extra functionalities. Verdict Since the day, the phone launched in India I'm hearing a lot of people suggesting to spend some extra bucks & go for the Redmi 3S. Well, that's partially true & only if you're a heavy gamer otherwise the Redmi 4A is a prodigy in itself in the given price-point & believe me you don't need to search for more options in the given category or at a higher price-point. This phone beats higher priced phones like a boss and believe me when I say this! If you're still confused about buying the Redmi 4A in the next flash sale then take my words, this is the only phone you should go for! F*** everything else, Hands down!
