The bag had things in it I needed, so the possibility of it crawling into it was horrifying. I knew if I sprayed it, it would probably escape into the bag before it died. So instead, I grabbed my critter catcher and somehow managed to snatch it off the side. (I've gotten quicker the more I've had to deal with them.) I was then able to carry it out to my porch and spray it as soon as I released it. The roach was unable to escape the grabber, which is actually something I'd wondered about.
