## Description

Multi Tasking Made Easy This 3 port DisplayPort MST hub lets you daisy chain triple DP monitors to your DisplayPort Windows device, conveniently helping you to increase and maximize your productivity. With devices becoming more portable than ever, you are limited to fewer video outputs and confined to your small integrated screen. This multi monitor MST hub solves that problem by enabling you to connect three separate displays to your DisplayPort equipped computer, making multi-tasking much easier. Using this DisplayPort to DisplayPort MST splitter, you can mirror your display onto additional monitors or stream independent content to each display, which makes it the ideal accessory for travel or hot-Desking environments. Astonishing Picture Quality MST technology uses your existing video card to minimize the use of system resources while delivering UHD 4K resolutions for two monitors or displays simultaneously. Plus, because the DP hub can output high-definition 1080p, it’s perfect for all high-resolution applications such as graphic design and CAD drawing. Connect to Any Display With this DisplayPort multi monitor splitter, you can use DisplayPort video adapters and cable adapters that enable you to connect HDMI, VGA or DVI monitors. This ensures your DP MST hub will be compatible with virtually any television, monitor or projector. The splitter hub is VESA and DisplayPort certified to support DP 1.2 enabled systems, for seamless integration with your existing video equipment. This DisplayPort to DisplayPort MST Hub is backed by a 3-year warranty, and free lifetime technical support.

Review: Our corporate standard for user and kiosk multi-monitor display solutions - StarTech's DisplayPort hub solution is the multiple monitor hub that we have standardized to use for all of our corporate desktop, notebook and tablet use. Initially we introduced the StarTech Mini DisplayPort to 3x DisplayPort hub for all of our Microsoft Surface Pro3 users with a Surface dock running either 2 or 3 displays. We've continued to use the StarTech solution for DisplayPort to multi-display for our currently deploying Dell Optiplex 9020Micro and Dell 9020 Small Form Factor desktop pc's and Dell/HP notebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles. Manufacturers have finally begun standardizing all new computers with MiniDisplayPort/Thunderbolt or Displayport displays, supplanting the vise grip of legacy VGA, DVI and retail HDMI connectivity. This is great because it allows the use of the newer displays that support DP connections, but it also provides us with a useful method of connecting the existing legacy monitor with new PC's with adapters. StarTech's DisplayPort Hub is aligned with its adapter modules, to provide a single manufacturer supported hub to many output displays (DP, MiniDP, VGA, DVI, HDMI) using the correct StarTech conversion adapter. From a corporate support aspect, this simplifies the # of inventoried hubs and adapters that are out in the wild for our users and provides a solid supported single manufacturer display connectivity solution that just works. This solution does not require a high end graphics card to achieve business multi-monitor support. Most of our business PC's are running Intel HD5000 graphics adapters and run 3x 24" 16:10 monitors fine (Dell U2415) or lesser resolution. Thankfully the solution is cost effective and can be used with Startech ST121SHD50 HDMI CAT6 transmitter/receivers to increase the distance of the PC from large HDMI presentation screens considerably. All of the Startech displayport video connectivity solutions mentioned in this review are in active use as a standard for my corporate customers and I use them at home as well. There was no product provided by the vendor for this glowing review - they just work that well.
Review: Works great - Only pitfall is how DP behaves in Windows - I bought this to be used with my Windows 7 setup - 3 monitors ran out of one DP port. While it does the job, and indeed powers all three monitors, Windows freaks out when any of the monitors is turned off or goes into power save mode. It acts as if the display was physically disconnected/no longer exists, and shifts all your desktop items and windows into another monitor. That is a problem for Windows when *all 3* monitors disappear at once - it basically freezes and you have to reboot. I gave up on Windows+DP and just went the DVI route. However! This device works great out of the box with Linux. I'm using it at work, Running Arch Linux x64, kernel 4.0.7-2-ARCH. xrandr sees all monitors connected to it, and although there is a slight (0.75-1.25s) delay when setting up the monitors with xrandr, it works just fine and I am able to have 3 spanned 27" monitors running at 1080p through this device. Overall, this product does what it is supposed to - the only issues I had with it were operating system issues that are not the fault of this product.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will this work with one 3440x1440 monitor and one 2560x1440 monitor? and will i be able to do over 60hz? they both do 100hz+**
A: I'm fairly certain that you'd be pushing the limits of DisplayPort 1.2. Look at the total bandwidth being used of two monitors and if it exceeds roughly 24gbps, then the adapter won't handle it

**Q: I have my eyefinity 3 monitor setup and want to add a forth, can I use this adapter, and is it active?**
A: Note that previous answers were from 2015. Current AMD Radeon driver software (post-Castalyst) does not support MST, and NVidia has an article on their site explicitly stating their drivers do not support MST either. MST will still work in mirrored mode when in the BIOS and on Windows boot logo, because despite AMD and NVidia not supporting MST in their drivers, they DO still build the hardware to handle all of DisplayPort 1.4's feature set.

**Q: What hz does this have with 2560x1440 monitors?**
A: I have a 4 monitor setup, 2 of which go through the device. One at 3840x2160@30Hz, the other 1920x1080@60 Hz.

**Q: Why is this not using the whole screen. Why is there about 3 inches of my screen not being used.**
A: We do apologize for any inconvenience. We would like to look into this with you. Please feel free to contact us at 1-800-265-1844. Our Technical Advisors are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week to provide support. Atha, StarTech.com Support

### ⭐ Just didn't work for me
*by T***I on August 13, 2015*

First off, I am an IT professional...I have done this for a living for a long time....I had high hopes for this unit. Seemed simple enough...I currently use two monitors for work. I connect one to the Displayport connector on my Docking station and the other to the HDMI connector on my Laptop. This works but wanted to be able to use a third monitor and just use one connection....I thought this would be the ticket. I connected the hub to the display port adapter on my Docking Station, turned on my Laptop and saw video on my two monitors until the OS loaded at which time the display disappeared. I thought perhaps there was a driver needed for it to work...it was obvious to me the OS could not recognize the device. I went to the startech technical support web site and there is no driver for the unit. I contacted Technical Support (a couple of times) and they said no driver was needed....it should work fine but I needed to make sure I had the latest display driver for my Laptop loaded. I updated the graphics driver to the very latest and it still did not work. I attempted numerous configurations....tried the both displayport adapter on my docking station AND the mini displayport adapter on my laptop...neither worked. I also attempted using my laptop docked and undocked. I also tried leaving the one monitor connected via the HDMI connection and connecting the hub to both the docking station and then the mini connector on my laptop....My thought was that if I connected the displayport after I already had a display via the HDMI perhaps it would see the displayport connection. This did not work either. I could connect the monitor using the displayport adapter directly to the docking station and it worked but if I attempted to through the hub it did not.....SO, I am returning this unit. Perhaps I got a defective unit but spent a few hours trying to troubleshoot the issues and I am not willing to dedicate further time to troubleshoot this at this point....either it works or it doesn't and this didn't work for me. I was very disappointed.
