Crape myrtle trees have the longest blooming period of any tree I know of, blooming form late Spring until frost. You may be wondering how hard they are to grow. That is one of the best things about crape myrtles, they don’t need much water or much fertilizer to thrive. They only things they need are warm weather and lots of sun. If you live in a relatively warm place with relatively mild winters (US hardiness zones 7-9, some breeds 6) and have a place that gets a lot of sun you can easily grow crape myrtles. My crapes are shipped in super strong boxes, carefully secured in thier original containers, and never shipped "bareroot". Container trees can be planted anytime of the year, but crapes are especially tolerant of summer heat. They actually thrive in the heat. Depending on the variety chosen, your trees will arrive at your door 6-12 inches tall. I am a school teacher and I grow hundreds of crape in my backyard. I'd plant a dwarf or semi dwarf in a pot. **Q: I live in 5B, your thoughts?** A: They will likey die back to the ground during the winter and cone back every spring.
