Do not get the control box wet it will smoke the Green Machine, if you want a water detector get the AT Gold by Garrett. **Q: Can be used in salt water?** A: Yes, search coils are sealed (the electronic display housing is not). However, even with "salt elimination" selected it's my opinion results are "flaky" in salt water. Just my opinion, but I think the search accuracy for most detectors is "flaky" in salt water. RINSE the coil & portions of the shaft that are in the salt water when finished detecting. **Q: I was wondering will it find gold** A: yes it will and esp if you use the new DD coils , once you learn how to use it , it actually outperforms a lot of gold machines , but it is heavy !!, but all metal mode works great for gold , I have also read a review from a gold hunter that used a Tesoro Gold detector and he said his GTI 2500 went deeper and found smaller gold , Don't forget this sucker is heavy and that is usually the complaint I hear most often , I have owned mine for about 10 years now and I really like it .. **Q: Why does Amazon say this detector is discontinued by mfg? It is presently showing up on Garrett's website with no indication of being discontinued.** A: This model is not discontinued Garrett, but the model with the Treasure Talk feature is. Amazon is showing a picture with Treasure Talk instead of the updated unit with a back-light button. Although it comes with a 9" searchcoil, I also ordered a 12.5" for deeper penetration. By accident the manufacturer sent me two of them. When I told them of their mistake, they told me just to keep the extra one, so I did. Now I'm passing this all on to whoever buys it from me. I only used it once, cleaned it and put it up for later use. The only reason I'm selling is that I've decided to take up the hobby of Cowboy Action Shooting and need some more equipment for this hobby. It is a great buy for anyone. Also included is the owner's manual as well as a video.
