WELD-ON 4 is a water-thin, somewhat flammable cement formulated to quickly develop very clear and high strength bonds for many thermoplastic substrates. The bond is achieved by first softening the surfaces to be joined and then fusing them together with the dissipation of the solvent. The initial bond forms within a matter of minutes and is followed by a significant and continual increase in bond strength over the next several hours. WELD-ON 4 may be preferred by some plastic fabricators because it is less likely to leave white marks (commonly called blushing). For similar applications but faster setting cement, WELD-ON 3 is recommended. Weld-On 4 Acrylic Adhesive water thin, somewhat flammable, moderately fast-setting, blush-resistant solvent cement for bonding acrylic. It will also bond with other thermoplastics such as polystyrene, CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate), and polycarbonate to themselves. Does not bond to cross-linked acrylics. I need to use it on black and white acrylic.** A: Just additional information from my recent purchases, testing, and results. I was wanting to bond PETG 3D prints and found that between 3, 4, and 16, 3 was the only one that produced a strong unbreakable bond. After several days of curing, the bond with product 16 was able to be broken with only low-moderate force. 4 was definitely stronger than 16, but 3 was the only one that was able to bond PETG sufficiently such that I couldn't separate the parts without breaking them. **Q: Can this product be used to repair a turntable dust cover? The dustcover has cracks I want to bond together in such a way they are hardly noticeable.** A: Yes, the trick is to squeeze the cracks as tight together as you can, then tape with Scotch tape, the new stuff, from the inside, then just touch the crack with a needle tip bottle and put just enough to fill the crack, the crack will be almost invisible when it’s full. Don’t over do it, you don’t need any on either the upper or lower surface, just enough for the surface tension of the glue to pull it into the crack. What it does is to melt the filled crack together from the inside of the crack itself. The next day, the repair will be as strong as the original plastic. If you use too much it will actually be stronger, but you will have a scar like seam. I’ve most recently used it to repair plastic motorcycle turn signal stalks. **Q: Can I use this to bond acrylic to other (non-acrylic) plastic?** A: There are a lot of "non-acrylic plastics."
