We recommend using the pH ON-THE-GO alkaline water pouch with your large bottle, pitcher, or any container with volume 35 – 140 Oz / 0.22 – 0.88 Gallons / 1 – 4 Liters of water. After you have soaked the new dry ON-THE-GO pouch, and discard the soaking water, the filter can live in the pitcher/bottle for its whole filter life if you like. The pitcher/bottle can be kept in the fridge, with water in it and the filter pouch in there as well. As the water is used, just add more water without ever taking the pouch out! If the pouch will be out of contact with water for more than 48 hours, you should place the wet pouch in a zip-top bag in the fridge until its next use (or you can leave it in the pitcher/bottle with water in it). The 3-5 min wait after adding new water is so the filter will have time to do its work before drinking but the pouch does not need to be removed. Hope this helps! No, the filter materials within the mesh / pouch is not suited for hot environment and hot/boiling water can affect its filtering capabilities. We suggest boiling your water, let it cool down then use the filter pouch or you may also filter your water first before heating. The pouch is not meant for hot water environments, as this will damage the natural stones and minerals. Please note that filtering your water before using it in a kettle will raise the TDS as it is adding in essential minerals and trace elements.
