## Description

Discover the Emlid Reach RS+ GNSS Receiver The EMLID Reach RS+ is a high precision RTK receiver using GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and SBAS satellites to allow positioning with centimeter level precision. While standard GPS receivers in automobiles and cell phones, have 3-5 meter accuracy, the Reach RS+ can receive correction data from various sources to compensate for atmospheric propagation errors. These corrections can be from a public correction network (free in many states) or another RTK receiver. The Reach RS+ has built-in WIFI, bluetooth, serial, and LoRa radio with up to 8 km range to receive correction information or transmit position coordinates. The Reach RS+ Receiver can be used several ways: 1) Stand alone (but accuracy no better than cell phone GPS.) 2) Utilizing cell-phone internet "NTRIP" corrections from free CORS networks. 3) With a second Reach RS+ receiver to act as a base station supplying corrections (base/rover configuration). 4) With other RTK Receivers to act as a base station and supply correction data. 5) In Post Processing Mode, where raw data is saved to device, and post-processed later (good when cell signals or base station not available.) The Reach RS+ is a single frequency GNSS receiver, which will have longer initialization times and more difficulty in poor locations than dual-frequency receivers. Instead of 15-30 second initialization times, it will usually take several minutes to get a FIX. It also requires outdoor use with clear sky view, and doesn't work well under dense foliage or in "urban canyons." If you do not have free state supplied real time corrections (a free CORS network) and you don't want to do post-processing, you may want to buy two receivers, one to act as base, and one as a rover, for centimeter level accuracy. DON'T BUY IT....

It promises accuracy to the centimeter. Accuracy however is approx 3 meters. Unless you are willing to wait about an hour for the unit to get it right.

This Really is Great if you have a state-run CORS system.

*by T***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2018*

I've spent years using hand-held GPS receivers or cell phones to try to lay out driveways and properly lines, but always struggled with accuracy. Then I found an old Leica GPS system which used USCG Beacon corrections, for sub-meter accuracy a few years ago, which was much better. But since the USCG Beacon transmitters are being decomissioned, I've been looking for cheap sub-meter accuracy options, and stumbled upon this. This has surpassed anything I thought was available for under $1000. I've used this for laying out driveways and property lines on two large 40-acre parcels. Since my state has a state funded CORS network, I can use the built-in NTRIP server, along with my cell phone acting as a wifi-hotspot to supply real-time correction data, and I regularly get < 2 centimeter horizontal accuracy when reference station is near. Since this is a single-frequency (L1) instead of dual-frequency (L1/L2) receiver, it can take 2-4 minutes or longer to initialize to an initial FIX rtk lock, and that can be worse if trees or buildings are obstructing the sky. No question that the dual-frequency receivers are much faster and more robust, but I can't afford $5000+. I had planned to use this via bluetooth with the Mobile Topographer app on my cell phone, but the built-in survey software is better for collecting points, and can then "stake out" a given list of coordinates. This also is limited to WGS84 coordinates, so a conversion program is needed to change to NAD83 or other coordinate systems. But if your CORS corrections are based on NAD83, your coordinate outputs will essentially be NAD83 automatically.Pros: (1) well integrated system, essentially turnkey. (2) nothing similar for near this price (3) frequent updates of software add new features and improvements. (4) Online "Forum" helps with getting started and with support.Cons: (1) It won't give the fast FIX that a dual-frequency $5000 system will. (2) It's ability to get or keep a FIX in an urban area, or around trees will never match a dual-frequency system. (3) It's limited to WGS84 right now, or NAD83 if your CORS are NAD83 based, but no UTM or other cartesian coordinate systems. (4) The software has a few bugs, but there are usually simple work-arounds.
