All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease and other contamination. Timber frames must be sealed either with an oil based primer or with two coats of timber sealer prior to glazing. Work putty in hands before use. Ensure rebates are dirt free and prepared as detailed above. Apply putty to rebate, bed in glass and secure with non rusting pins or spring clips. Apply putty to front face of glass and smooth to a tri angular fillet with a putty knife. Review: Old stock - not fresh - When newly opened, the contents had a thick solid crust. Also, a hard skin had formed where the putty had shrunk and come away from the sides of the tub. A considerable amount of putty - and time! - was wasted salvaging the useable putty from the skin and crust. Just opened the tub to use it and I’ve been sent a half empty tub. There is dried putty around the sides where product has clearly been removed and it weighs 1.285kg not 2kg. Appalling. I find a pair of rubber food service gloves or a pair of tight fitting marigolds are good for this task as linseed oil isn’t great on your hands and you can get in about it and really work the material. Getting the lumps out is key, but if you are struggling then my guess is that it’s been stored too long and is a bit past it. If you just bought it take it back. That said 5 minutes of working the material should sort it out even if the stuff at the bottom is pretty firm. **Q: Can my 3 year old help mixing this? I want to use it to make/decorate a few things with her** A: As I remember the product requires to be kneaded rather than mixed. It ends up a bit like a bread mix. I would keep a bowl of warm water handy for her to clean her hands and obviously make sure she keeps her hands away from her mouth as the product seems like a mixture of sand and oil. **Q: Can the product still be used if the lid was cracked and therefore exposed to air? It seems okay but the pot fell and cracked the lid in storage** A: Easy to use and my window in the shed is still in. Nothing has fallen out. **Q: Can you dye the putty? Need a reddish colour** A: Sorry no idea but, why don’t you just paint over the putty with the colour you require.
