Probably the most famous product in our company history. Today we still sell our Galileo's in many variants. Benefit from the experience of many years of family businesses from Germany. Founded in the 1950s in the Tauber Valley, the company initially specialised in the production of thermometer capillaries. Due to its specialisation in glass processing for measurement technology, Koch became known for the production of Galileo thermometers in the 1990s. Galileos, thermometers and hygrometers are still part of our range today Whenever you need to measure the lowest (Min) and/or highest (Max) temperature until you reset the measured Min/Max values manually, a Min/Max Thermometer is just the right device for you. The classic Min Max Thermometer consists of a U-shaped curved capillary, which shows the current temperature on both sides and the minimum temperature (left) and the maximum temperature on the right. To do this, the scaling is applied to the left from minus to plus, while it is applied to the right from plus to minus. Above the indicating liquid, which formerly consisted of mercury (or mercury compound), there is a marker on each side. If the temperature falls, the indicating liquid will rise up on the left side (and fall down on the right side). The marker is pushed upwards on the left side (Min) while it stops on the right side (Max) because the marker is held in position by a magnet. The bottom of the right marker will now display the highest measured temperature (maximum), while the left marker is the same as the current temperature. If the temperature rises, the marker will remain on the left and show the lowest temperature measured until then. As soon as you press the middle button, the markers are no longer held by the magnet and fall back on the indicating liquid. This simple principle is based on having a liquid on which the marker can sit and cannot “slip” through the indicating liquid. Mercury was ideal for this, but is no longer allowed in the EU (for household thermometers), which is why our classic Min Max thermometer does not contain mercury any more. Regardless of which of the three possible variations (classic, electronic, bimetal) you choose, each choice comes with at least one disadvantage that you should know, so you should read the columns below the respective image in order to be able to choose the Min/Max thermometer right for you. The liquid used today is mercury-free. It is also basically no worse than mercury but has a serious disadvantage for which none of the manufacturers of mercury-free Min Max thermometers can be blamed, because we all have to work with the same physics. The new liquid “holds” the marker less well than mercury, which is why, especially when transported to you (individual shipping), there may be large shocks that can separate the indicating liquid and/or let the marker slip into the indicating liquid. If you can solve this not always occurring potential transport problem yourself (shaking together like before with mercury medical thermometer in the past), then the classic Min Max is the ideal choice for you, because it is far more accurate than the bimetal version and it does not need batteries, so once hung up always work, even in any weather and temperature. The bimetal-Min Max thermometer cannot cause the problem of separating liquids as with the classic Min Max thermometer due to its design. In addition, a simple (bimetal) hygrometer is installed in the product. Furthermore, it does not require batteries. However, bimetal thermometers are less accurate than all other measuring methods due to their design. While the classic Min Max thermometer will have no deviations of more than 1°C under normal circumstances, the bimetallic thermometer may also cause deviations of up to 2°C. This can be too much for some areas of application in the gardening sector. But for anyone who can work with such a deviation, this version can be ideal. The electronic Min Max thermometer combines the accuracy of the classic product, avoiding its disadvantage of potentially separating liquid. Unfortunately, these advantages are also bought with disadvantages. Firstly, you need (recurring) batteries. This costs money and is not sustainable. It seems to you that whenever you need it, the batteries are empty. On the other hand, batteries discharge relatively quickly at low temperatures. Electronics no matter how well built, is also always susceptible to wind and weather. In other words, the electronic Min Max should not be used outdoors. Users who do not have these disadvantages because of the area of application (e.g. greenhouse) can be exactly right with this product. ## Features - Maxima-minima-thermometer with hygrometer - Reading the temperature and humidity with the minima-maxima function - Temperature range: -50 ° C - +50 ° C, humidity display: 20 - 100% ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Age Range Description | Adult | | Asin | B004WQZUQC | | Best Sellers Rank | 453,035 in Garden (See Top 100 in Garden) 1,285 in Weather Thermometers | | Brand | Koch Thermometer | | Colour | green | | Connectivity Technology | Wi Fi | | Customer Reviews | 3.1 3.1 out of 5 stars (220) 3.1 out of 5 stars | | Display Type | Lcd | | Global Trade Identification Number | 04004036866001 | | Included Components | 1 x Bimetallthermometer | | Item Length | 25 Centimetres | | Item Type Name | Hygrometer | | Item Weight | 0.18 Kilograms | | Manufacturer | Koch | | Manufacturer Part Number | 86600 | | Model Name | 86600 | | Model Number | 86600 | | Outer Material | Metal | | Power Source | Battery Powered | | Product Care Instructions | Wipe Clean | | Response Time | 0.5 seconds | | Reusability | Reusable | | Special Features | Waterproof | | Specification Met | See manual | | Style Name | bimetal | | Unit Count | 1.0 count | | Upper Temperature Rating | 50 Degrees Celsius | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Koch - **Colour:** green - **Age range (description):** Adult - **Included components:** 1 x Bimetallthermometer - **Outer material:** Metal - **Display type:** Lcd - **Product care instructions:** Wipe Clean - **Unit count:** 1.0 count - **Power source:** Battery Powered - **Upper temperature rating:** 50 Degrees Celsius ## Images ![KOCH Minimum Maximum Thermometer with Hygrometer, bimetal, 86600 - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/619-dyjXvEL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style Name** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐ Not recommended *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 12 September 2020* Inaccurate and max/min does not work ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this is better 2 in 1 looks good as well *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 9 January 2016* Wanted a thermometer and a hydrometer, this is better 2 in 1 looks good as well ### ⭐⭐ Unfortunately didn't work *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 24 January 2024* This max min thermometer didn't work on delivery so was returned and refunded ## Frequently Bought Together - KOCH Minimum Maximum Thermometer with Hygrometer, bimetal, 86600 - Max Min Thermometer and Hygrometer - Ideal Greenhouse Thermometer and Humidity Meter To Monitor Maximum and Minimum Temperatures and Humidity Easily Wall Mounted - Digital Greenhouse Thermometer - Classic Max Min Thermometer for Greenhouse or Garden Maximum and Minimum Temperature Monitoring use Indoor Outdoor Useful Greenhouse Accessories --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.uk/products/90453997-koch-minimum-maximum-thermometer-with-hygrometer-bimetal-86600](https://www.desertcart.co.uk/products/90453997-koch-minimum-maximum-thermometer-with-hygrometer-bimetal-86600) --- *Product available on Desertcart United Kingdom* *Store origin: GB* *Last updated: 2026-10-04*
