    Making House:  long on insightful text, short on welcoming environments

"Making House: Designers at Home" is strong on text that provides insight regarding the interior designers whose residences are featured.  On the other hand, I found the decor disappointing, with only a few homes showcasing what, to my taste, are welcoming and intriguing environments.  In part, this may reflect a preference for minimalism in current design trends, but many of the residences are so devoid  of personal possessions that they seem staged for sale.  With this balance of strengths and weaknesses, "Making House" is, in effect, the antithesis of "Haute Bohemians."  This other book, also recently published, was short on insightful text but presented residences chock-a-block with fascinating possessions that reflected the passions of leaders in varied artistic fields.
