I am in no way qualified to give a reliable objective review. This is just my impression from using it a few times so far.As far as I can tell, this is a decent whetstone to get started and learn the basics of sharpening. I noticed as I was sharpening that a lot of the stone as well as the metal was coming away with the water. Whether this is just the way whetstones are as compared to oil stones, or this is a particularly fragile stone, I don't know. But it seems like you need to be fairly careful to wear the stone away evenly, or you'll be doing a lot of flattening. This isn't very important to me, since I only plan to use it now and then and will probably upgrade when needed.Overall, it's decent. It's hard to mess up a square hunk of stone. The grippy holder works great and I'm definitely stealing it to use on my oil stone when this one is through.
