Annie Sloan Decorative Paint Effects: A Practical Guide

Was in new condition and the book itself was exactly what I was looking for. Glad I bought it.

This is an excellent, comprehensive book on gilding, written by a well known U.K. gilding expert. My only quibble is I personally would have liked more information on crackled finishes, but why ask for the moon when we have the stars? This book addresses most other questions in detail, and even provides evidentiary photos of 'PITFALLS' so one can avoid doing the wrong thing. A very useful book.

Please note that this is a Reader's Digest book, a feature that I failed to notice. I was looking for an introductory text and practical guide to the application of gold leaf. I thought that a book entitled "Decorative Gilding: A Practical Guide" would serve nicely. To apply gold leaf you need to know basically two things: (i) how to do it, and (ii) where to obtain the tools and materials needed. With regard to the usefulness of this book in answering these questions, I can do no better than to quote from the book itself: (i) "We do not demonstrate the use of loose real gold leaf in this book, because it is too difficult for the novice gilder to handle. Despite these concerns people often prefer loose leaf....etc" (ii) "How to Find Supplies. The tools and mateials you need for the techniques demonstrated in this book are generally available from specialty art supply and paint stores. To find a store near you, try looking in your local telephone directory..." Is there anyone out there who needs to pay good money for this kind of information?

Annie Sloan's books (I purchased 6) are all beautifully illustrated and have very clear concise directions for an amateur do-it-yourselfer. I loved every single one of these books and the projects I've done through the use of these books have come out very well. I am very pleased and highly recommend them. These books are for beginners as well as experienced DIYers.

Very inspiring book with wonderful instructions and a variety of techniques. Better than a Google Search and well worth the money. I'm running out to get more metal leaf. I would buy again from this author.

I got this book as a gift. The projects in this book were wonderful. I know my friend has loved reinventing old furniture and items in her home utilizing the ideas in this book. The step by step instructions allow for confidence in knowing your project will be sure to amaze and inspire anyone who sees your project.
