Thankfully, there are some time tested techniques for removing Thinking Putty from hair, clothing, and other sorts of fabrics. If the putty enmeshed itself into the pores in the fabric like blue jeans, simple scraping & tugging isn't going to remove it. First, remove as much of the putty as possible from the surface. You don't have to go crazy scraping away but you don't want a thick blob attached to the clothes either. Remember that putty sticks to putty very well. Use a small lump that you've scraped off to pick the remaining putty away. We are going to liquify the putty and the less to wash away, the less mess we are going to make. If the affected clothes are a natural fabric like cotton, linen, wool, or hair, we can use rubbing alcohol to remove the Thinking Putty. Pick up some 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol at the local pharmacy or grocery store. Position the clothes over the sink and liberally pour some rubbing alcohol over the stain. Using a paper towel or wash cloth, rub the rubbing alcohol into the putty. Immediately you should notice the Thinking Putty liquifying and moving away from the fabric. As you mix in the rubbing alcohol you can probably pull away chunks of putty that have become freed from the fabric. After the putty is removed, you may still have a minor stain on the fabric. This is the pigment that was used to color the Thinking Putty. A quick run through the washer will take care of this. Use a liquid detergent pre-treatment and the pigment should wash right away. Synthetic fabrics pose more of a challenge. The rubbing alcohol we used earlier will degrade synthetic fabrics -- slowly eating them away. Instead, after removing as much putty as possible, spray the stain with WD-40 and let it sit for a few minutes. This should soften and loosen the remaining putty. Rub and blot the putty with a paper towel. If Thinking Putty is still staining the fabric, try dampening a portion of paper towel with rubbing alcohol and blotting the stain. If nothing else will work, and you really did a royal job on your clothes you need to take them to the experts. Drop off the clothes at the local dry cleaner and let them know the stain is "silicone-based".
