Review: If you want to pass your SS 7-12 (232) buy this book!! - I found this book after failing the Social Studies 7-12 (232) Exam for the 2nd time!! My first two attempts, I used the resource 240 tutoring, which charged $40.00 per month, whereas this book is practically a one time fee of around $40.00 or less. This resource provides the material found in the TEKS, as well as online practice exams, that in my opinion are the most challenging questions I have endured in my preparation for this exam. The book is outlined by each domain, followed by competencies within that domain, and descriptive statements under each competency. It is super organized, which is an aspect of the book that I gravitated towards. The information is in depth, and addresses key components. In my studying, which was a course of approximately 5 months, I targeted the World History and Texas History Domains, as these were my weakest areas. On my 1st and 2nd attempts, in the World History Domain, I got 7/18 correct. On my most recent attempt I got 16/18 correct, which is a DRASTIC change!! During the World History section of the test, I found myself knowing the info like the back of my hand, whereas before I was lost and confused. On my 1st and 2nd attempts, in the TX History Domain I scored 4/15 and 7/15. On my most recent attempt I got 13/15 correct, without even finishing competency 012, which is the final competency of the TX History Domain. This goes to show how effective this resource is in improving not only your scores, but the information and material needed to teach in the state of Texas. On my first attempt, I received a 210, on my second attempt, I received a 222, and on my latest attempt, I received a 248. I understand the structure of this book may not work with everyone, as we each hold different learning styles, but the way the book is organized certainly helped me pass this time. While I was studying, I wrote down and color coordinated each key event/topic. After that, I reviewed each section that I felt I needed to work on and highlighted it in the book. I will definitely keep this book for future reference when preparing lessons, and gathering quick info that I may need. Before you start your studying, take the benchmark exam, provided on the online study center. This will tell you your weakest areas (if you don't already know.) Mine were obviously World History and Texas History. It also shows you your strongest areas, which are domains that you probably don't need to review on, and a middle section, where you may just want to quickly review. There are also 2 full-length practice tests you can take. The first one is online and in the back of the book, while the second one is exclusively online. I didn't have time to take the second practice test, but by the time I took the first practice test, my World History and Texas History domains were green, which identifies my strongest subjects. I cannot brag on this book enough! If it wasn't for this resource and a lot of people praying for me, I don't know how I would've passed this test! It has such a low passing rate, and when I get my certificate I am going to frame it! I am proud of the progress that I made, throughout my course of preparing for this exam, which began in the fall of 2017. I have text anxiety and stress when it comes to tests. Because of this book, I felt more knowledgeable and prepared for the exam than I ever have!! If I could give this resource more stars I would! I hope this helps, and good luck with your testing! YOU CAN DO IT! Review: Covers the details - My twenty year old degree is in history, and I've been teaching elementary school for fifteen years. This means I had the foundational history background and know the pedagogical type questions these tests ask. This book was fantastic because it reviewed all the important based on each competency the TExES tests, and it highlights the seemingly obscure people and details I wouldn't otherwise have known about.

A Godsend
Used 240 the first time and got a 234. 240 wasn’t detailed enough but this book was the one. Went through the book and studied my weak areas and got a 263! Highly recommend.

Better than 240 & cheaper!
I paid for 240 Tutoring just like some other reviewer and flunked the texes social studies by 2 points after passing all the 240 tutoring with a 98 and studying my butt off. The 240 tutoring guaranteed I would pass or my money back....they paid 1/2 of one month! They are not honest, wouldn’t cancel on time either, kept billing after I emailed to stop. So I read a review on here and bought this book. It is rough to digest because it bounces from the renaissance era at the top of a page to current issues at the end of the page. So your brain will hurt a bit. But highlight and make note cards yourself with this book. There was a lot that was on the test! The practice tests were helpful too! I did them in sections. Please note that the real test has different versions so you have got to focus on the whole.....I guess to keep cheaters at bay. Not gonna lie this test is a beast! But I passed with this book and CRASH COURSE on YouTube! Hours of John Green’s History as recommended by other review. It worked....but talk about brain overload! This worked!!!

Great resource!
I purchased the REA Texes Social Studies 7-12 book at the beginning of April (2019). This book has loads of information (over 600 pages) and covers each competency in great detail. The layout can get confusing at times (jumps around different years) but it was designed that way so it could follow with the competencies. I had used Mometrix when I took the exam the first time in March (2019) and my score was a 226. I then decided to use 240Tutoring and once I had completed their course, I still didn't feel prepared enough. So when I discovered this book, I purchased it...great decision! The two weeks before my second attempt at passing the exam, my nose was buried in this book. Took the exam April 19th and got my results back on the 23rd...260! Passed with flying colors! That wouldn't have happened if not for this book! Almost forgot to mention, the book comes with 3 practice tests! So I highly recommend this book to anyone!

Extremely Helpful
This book is extremely insightful and helps to prepare for the TEXES exam. It is a very thick book which seems intimidating at first but there is so much solid information in here that it is extremely worth reading through.

dump 240 and use this guide.
240 is awful. i took this test twice before and failed.nothing and i mean nothing that 240 presented was on my exam. luckily i supplemented with this guide book and passed. this guide plus google on topics that you need deeper understanding will go along way in preparing (i also watched documentaries and read some children’s books on hard to grasp areas.) i have no idea how 240 gathers their test knowledge, but it’s garbage. this test requires considerable prep effort, breathing deeply and being able to interact with the information. i knew i was ready to retest when i could confidently interact with the content in conversation (we talk about history and politics in our family frequently).

It has a great structure. Easy to follow! A lot of great info but easy to understand.
