My last mill started leaving metal powder on everything I ground. Does this one?** A: As a rule you are supposed to dump the fist 2 cups of ground wheat (or what you grind) to make sure the metal filings are worked out. That is with any metal grinder. **Q: Can the electric motor be mounted to this grinder or is the motor strickly for the deluxe model?** A: Deluxe model. Honestly I wouldn't waste your money on the basic one- I had it twice and the handle broke both times. The deluxe one is so much better and not much more money. The motor is nice to have a well **Q: Can you get extra parts for it? Grinding wheels etc.** A: corps0331, you said you found a place for replacement parts. Could you share that information? **Q: Can you grind dehydrated vegetables that are broken up into small pieces?** A: I don't see why not. It's less hard than grains. It's a good thought... I was thinking of dehydrating home made dog food, and it would surely save space to grind it too! This handles some pretty tough whole wheat berries. I have run mine over an hour with the motor attachment. I opted for this one because I can also hand grind when the power is out. I make breads on the woodstove, which are great. Even power is on I do it! Make sure you realize only this deluxe can take the motor...I know that's not what you asked about...but the motor is very worth it!My only one little issue with this grinder for wheat....which is no big deal... but it may also be true with veggies...sometimes when you are near the end of what's in the hopper, sometimes (with motor OFF please!) need to push the stuff down a little more. Seems the weight of more stuff in the hopper does the pushing. Not an issue with the hand grinding so much, but could be. I poke the stuff down with a skewer and it works again for the duration of what's left in it. Very sturdy, very good, I use it on the finest setting, good fine powder comes out. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was tentative, but no more! *by on Reviewed in the United States July 17, 2013* I wondered if this mill would perform since it was only $80, and the next one I could find that seemed comparable was $250...I decided to go for this "Deluxe" Model (rather than the less expensive version) so that if I liked it, and wanted to free my hands I could order the electric motor - and I think I probably will, though I will probably grind by hand as much or more than with the motor :)It took about 5 minutes to do a cup, and that's leisurely grinding while watching TV, and picking a few grains of oats out every now and then ;) (Organic grain from a local farm!)My first batch came out SO COARSE!!! And I was very disappointed, but decided to give it a go again, and figured "what the heck, I'll REALLY tighten it!" So I kind of 'forced it' past what felt like tight, and voila! BEAUTIFUL, fine flour!!! The new metal, must have had a bit of a tight spot - I tightened a few times as I grinded, and was making very fine, wonderful flour!The first loaf if rising now, and I sprinkled some of the coarser flour on top - I expect it will be as lovely as it will be yummy!Update: The bread WAS as yummy as it was lovely! The texture was wonderful - and it was all whole wheat flour - no white. I am SOOOO impressed with this little mill!! And I ordered it through my Amazon Prime and got 2 day free shipping! We didn't know how much we would use it, but once we got into the habit of grinding our own wheat to make bread, we were hooked! We have since moved on to an electric version, but this one works great for smaller batches, or for locations that don't have elecricity. It is much quieter than the electric versions, it's easy to use, and it really doesn't take up that much space. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hard to Find a Place to Attach It *by on Reviewed in the United States May 27, 2015* The Victorio VKP1024 Deluxe Hand Operated Grain Mill was great, except there was no place in my house to attach it. I had to take it to my daughter's house to use it, and the only place at my daughter's I could use the mill was a granite-top table. The instructions say to attach the mill to a surface with straight sides and to push it all the way against the surface until it stops. That means you have to have a counter with at least a 2 inch overhang, and my counters and my daughter's counters have only a 1 inch overhang. Also, the counters have to have straight sides, which means if you have rounded or beveled edges on your counter tops, the mill will not stay put at all. So, even if you have a bar where you could attach the mill, if the bar does not have straight sides, it just will not attach. However, it was easy to attach the mill to the 2 inch thick granite table top, and it stayed in place with only occasional re-tightening.As far as the operation of the mill, I loved it, and the instructions were clear. A lot of problems people have had with mills is likely that they haven't read the instructions or the instructions were hard to understand. These instructions say that before using, grind 2 cups of plain, white rice to clean the mill, then throw the rice away. They say to expect small metal particles in the rice, but I did not see any.The adjustment knob stayed in position and the flour seemed fine enough, although I am new to grinding flour and making bread. The handle was easy to turn, although I did get a workout when grinding 7 cups of flour! The wheat berries fed through smoothly and the flour dropped into the bowl without making a mess.My next mill was a less-expensive Back to Basics that is supposed to be the same as the VICTORIO VKP1012, and the pictures sure do look the same. Let me assure you, the Back to Basics does not operate the same as this Victorio VKP1024! The Back to Basic assembles very differently than this Victorio VKP1012, and it is definitely not as good.
