Does the blades freely roll or can you lock them?

Thank you for your question. The rotation of the blades works in a similar way to a one way ratchet system that can only be rotated forwards and not back. As the peeler only works by drawing it towards the direction of the handle, it is always held in that position and will not freely role when in use. I hope that answers your question. Would this take the skin off melons?

It's there for always for when you store it! Squeeze the top bits together like a hair or bulldog clip! Theres a slit opening on bottom.Slides over and on and off easily.Looking to find a replacement as mine lost.
