There is no gap whatsoever from the beginning clear out to the tip, the cutting edge is smooth and uniform (unlike some scissors in my collection). This newer version of the Tweezerman has a carefully machined micro-serrated edge that prevents hair and other stuff from sliding forward on the cutting edge. These are small but perfect for travel. When I travel I put a small plastic pipette tip over the end, don't really need a separate little case for the scissors. I cut my own hair and these are the only scissors I like. The blades are great and the scissors feel good in my small hands. BONUS: Tweezerman will sharpen the blades for free, for a lifetime if you mail them to them! I recently sent them SEVEN pairs and they sharpened them ALL for FREE and mailed them back to me with no cost to me other than the initial postage to send them!!
