## Description

Solar Lighted Cover- 3 month + unplugged power Keep Your Kindle Protected, Powered and Illuminated The first solar cover for the desertcart Kindle e-reader takes an environmentally friendly approach to enhancing form and utility. The Solar Lighted Cover for Kindle 4 is designed to look smart and feel great in your hands without being bulky or heavy. The form-fitted cover keeps your Kindle safe while discretely adding functionality with a built-in solar panel that charges the reserve battery for the LED reading lamp in addition to providing extra power for the Kindle. Best of all, the reading lamp draws power from the reserve battery, not the Kindle, so you won’t have to worry about draining the Kindle’s battery. Have Light Whenever You Need It The cover’s built-in LED reading lamp is available whenever you need it, providing unparalleled coverage and illumination over the screen surface of the Kindle, reaching up to 800 lux. The reading lamp turns on automatically when released from its housing, and automatically turns off when pressed back into place, or when the Kindle goes into sleep mode. Most importantly, it only draws power from the reserve battery, never from the Kindle itself.

Review: Does what it says - I've only had this cover for two weeks but it seems to work quite well. The cover is a little bulky, about 3/4" thick, it makes the Kindle the size of a normal paperback book. The kindle fits snugly in the case and can be a pain to take out, a butter knife will pop it out with no damage. When I got the case I fully charged it with my USB cable like the directions stated and that has been the last time the cords been used. I live in Las Vegas so we have plentiful sunshine. I put the Kindle in the window sill when I go to work and that's all the sunshine it gets. It did take about 3 days worth of charging to get back to a full charge after I drained the cover battery to below 30%. But I was using it a lot during that time. The only thing I had to be careful about was that if it was in the window sill with the window closed the cover got pretty hot. I remedied that by cracking the window open so some cool air blew on the case. Their are only two couple of things I'd change about the cover. 1) I would like to be able to dim the reading light. I have a 2 week old daughter and when I'm rocking her to sleep at night the light it pretty powerful, i put a piece of scotch tape over it to dim it. 2) To tell the cover battery charge level the cover LED light goes from Green-Orange-Red. Orange and red look a little to much alike, at a glance you might think it one was the other. A charge indicator that was a little more precise would be nice. Whether it was a LCD screen with a percentage or maybe bars like on your cell phone signal strength. The orange covers 30%-80% charge level, so mine is usually always orange. I bought this cover because I'm in the military and go places where electricity isn't always reliable. It will never lower your power bill enough to pay for itself, but it's nice to be able to put one power cord in a drawer and forget about it. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still buy this cover. I like it.
Review: Solar does not seem to work - The cover is big as described by previous reviewers. Seems to provide good protection. Light is adequate for night time reading. However, I purchased this for the solar charging feature and it does not work. After fully charging the battery from the wall I have had the cover in a south facing window all day every day for almost a month, where it gets almost 8 hours of sun per day with the green light blinking indicating that it is charging. Despite this the battery charge level indicator shows a decreasing charge. And I can't seem to transfer a charge to the kindle. I have tried to contact the company through the contact me link on the web page without success. Perhaps mine is just a lemon, but I will be continuing my attempts to contact Solarmio to return or exchange my unit

### ⭐⭐ Heavy and not very durable.
*by B***N on August 1, 2012*

I've been using this for a few months now. I underestimated how big this thing really is - it turns my svelte Kindle 4 into Goliath. The solar function works as advertised, which would be great for independence from power sources when travelling and camping, but it has failed. The problem is, the panel is connected to the body of the device with a thin fabric flap with (I presume) the wires for the solar panel running through it. Mine seems to have failed somewhere in this part of the device - it will only charge if I wiggle the panel a little bit so there must be a faulty connection in there somewhere. This design just seems inherently weak. I've contacted SK tech support but they don't speak english very well and it's such a pain in the **** to have to pay for postage, wait for weeks to get a replacement etc that I might just try fixing it myself. I wouldn't buy it again in retrospect.
