I could not find any evidence of that. In fact there was no indication at all where the binder was made, so I cannot definitively refute that claim, but cannot support it either. Basically, the binder is 2 flaps of leather bonded together with rivets and enclosed with the clasps that are pictured. It is good quality leather with nice, even and attractive coloring. I got the dark coffee version and it is very nice. Riveted into the 2 flaps of leather is a 6 hole binder clasp which services A5 paper, that has not been available in white for a long time. Even now, the paper that fits this binder is only the brown colored craft paper. It is great for a personal diary or journal or for taking notes during private study, such as Bible study. I would not recommend it for business applications or academic, such as taking notes in a meeting or a class. It is too "foo foo" for that, but it does serve well for a personal note taking journal. I am filling mine with the things only that I know are true for certain, such as scripture and personal insights regarding living life that I have personally verified. It has the feel of a captains ship log or a journal found in the log cabin of a mountain man, long dead. It looks great on a desk and works well for recording personal discoveries and direction or whatever you may. My only caution is that this is not necessarily a writing tablet that serve well in a business or fast paced environment. The construction of the journal, requiring the flap to be entirely opened and using a large horizontal space is the antithesis of "doing more with less" and the various other ludicrous business clarion calls we currently endure. This well made and tasteful item is best used in a personal way and kept to oneself.In closing, I would say the price is a little steep for this item. One can find many journals that are similarly substantial an better in various ways on Etsy, which cost less. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Such an awesome journal to gift *by A***T on Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2014* Wow! I was looking for a keepsake journal for my wife - something leather-bound, yet reuseable. She LOVES it! I asked C&L to monogram it with electric pen (the free option); and it turned out perfectly. HINT: wanna add a little more personalization? Get a silver ink pad and find the perfect rubber stamp, and voilΓ , you have a well contrasted silver, awesome looking 'thing' on your journal.
