Review: Stop nose bleeds asap - My 6 yr old gets nose bleeds all the time. I have this on reorder. Work great every-time. I keep them in the bathrooms and all my purses when we are out
Review: Absolutely effective IF USED CORRECTLY--tips from a high school coach on use - I was a high school soccer coach for years, and we had players getting nose bleeds from head butts and similar plays (mostly unintentional, thank goodness), but that creates several problems: player can't be on the field while bleeding, blood can't be on the uniform, and it is particularly difficult to stop a nosebleed when players are sweaty and have been running for a half hour or more. After we lost one of our starters for most of the second half of a tight match, I asked all the athletic trainers and pharmacists in our area what we could get. I had seen something similar in the Army as a Combat Lifesaver, but I didn't know how to get it for my players. A local pharmacist knew about these and ordered them for me. I did some research, and they use an extract from algae that makes the blood gel, while helping close the wound in the nose. I have used them numerous time, and they have always been effective WHEN USED CORRECTLY. They do NOT stop blood flow immediately, as some believe. You have to roll the fiber very tightly, and it must be pushed up into the nose so it is right next to the injury (broken skin), then you should apply moderate pressure. In my experience, it takes about 2 minutes for the blood to gel and for the wound to close. If you did not position the pack correctly, it is possible to gel the blood but not close the wound. So, you will pull the pack and congealed blood out, but it will immediately start bleeding again. I had this happen once, with a middle school kid who fell and busted his nose during an exhibition match. He was a little guy, so I had trouble getting it tight enough, and he pulled away when we put it in his nose the first time. Fair warning: if someone is bleeding profusely and you do it right the first time, you may have a large amount of congealed blood that come out with the nasal cease pack. It is often bright red arterial blood, and it will look like a huge glob of bright red, bloody snot. That isn't pleasant, and it should be treated like any other bodily fluid, despite being congealed: bag it, mark it, dispose of in a biohazard waste container. If you aren't comfortable seeing blood, then this part may REALLY get to you (I've had players and at least one parent who were watching almost throw up). The upshot is that every time I've used it, players say that everything slides out easily, and they can breathe much better (sometimes even better than before the nosebleed). Also, if you are using this in a sports setting, this makes it easy to control the blood and keep it from getting all over them and their uniform. I've used it over a dozen times, and I can usually get players back on the field in 3-4 minutes, as long as they lean forward and don't get blood all over themselves on the way off! I also carry it in a small kit for my two young sons, who both wrestle. I firmly believe that anyone who is having trouble with these either isn't using them correctly, or they're trying to use them for nosebleeds that are so far back in the sinus cavity that these can't reach them.

## Features

- Stops Bleeding. NasalCEASE's natural fiber releases calcium, a clotting factor, upon contact with blood. The calcium accelerates the clotting process and continues to be released until the bleeding has stopped. It's effective not only for nosebleeds, but on everyday cuts and scrapes; shaving cuts; puncture wounds; lacerations; and sports injuries, enabling you to return quickly to your activities.
- Easy. For nosebleeds simply insert a NasalCEASE sterile packing into the bleeding nasal cavity and remove after thirty minutes. For cuts or wounds, place it directly on the bleeding wound and apply pressure with two fingers until bleeding has stopped. The unique fiber of each sterile packing is highly absorbent.
- Painless. Unlike some blood clotting products, NasalCEASE works without stinging or irritating the affected area.
- No Re-Bleeds. NasalCEASE does not stick to or disturb the wound upon removal. New clots are not torn, triggering new bleeding.
- All-Natural. NasalCEASE is the natural based bio-polymer calcium alginate. NasalCEASE has no known side effects or medication contraindications, and is suitable for all ages.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Could someone post a picture of the product? Is it gauze, powder, swab, etc?**
A: It is a small 1" piece of calcium alginate rope dressing. It looks like strands of hair. It is not a powder, swab, or woven gauze.

**Q: I get horrific nosebleeds and am flying out soon. Has anyone had good luck with these during a flight?**
A: I don't fly, but it surely works on the ground!

**Q: Anyone leave this in more more than 30 minutes?**
A: If these don't work in 30 minutes you have a bleed that requires a better coagulation surface. Also they are intended for anterior nose bleeds. If you're having a posterior nose bleed you will likely need a rhino rocket and an overnight in the hospital on painkillers.

**Q: I got conflicting answers to my original question of what this product looks like ("cotton ball", "square gauze" & "a cream"), which is it?**
A: The product I have always received is packets containing rectangular pieces of a gauze-like fiber. I fold and roll them before inserting them. They work very well for me.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product
*by J***F on February 29, 2012*

I've been getting nosebleeds for my entire life. Getting a nosebleed used to be a huge hassle because I had to continuously press tissues into my nose until the bleeding stopped. This usually made me stop whatever I was doing, because it's hard to work with one hand pressing a tissue against my face. Even worse, I would sometimes get the type of nosebleed that would slowly ooze for hours, ruining my entire day. Once you insert this product into your nose, it stays there, freeing both of your hands to do normal activities. I've never had any "oozing" after removing the plug after 20-30 minutes, so it seems to work. It's uncomfortable to have a plug hanging out of your nose, and the scratchy texture of the cotton is extremely irritating, but it works. I subtract one star because the packaging is difficult to open. In the initial stages of a nosebleed, I'm pressing a tissue against my nose with one hand so blood doesn't drip anywhere. It is impossible to open the Nasalcease package with one hand because the envelope needs to be torn. I cannot free my hand to rip the package, even for a second, because blood would escape.
