In addition, I’m a bit of a sheet snob. Because I’ve paid a lot of money for sheets that say they have a high thread count and turned out to be poor quality, not durable or not that soft, I decided to educate myself on the different types of cotton, how thread counts are determined, and what that all really means when it comes to good, quality, soft sheets. Thread count can be measured a couple of different ways and there doesn’t seem to be any regulation on how it’s advertised. Some manufacturers say the sheet is 400 thread count, but it’s actually 200 threads in one direction and 200 threads in the other. True thread count should be the number of threads per direction which would make those sheets 200 not 400 thread count. So it’s hard to know what you’re really getting. Pima is a particularly soft and durable type of cotton. Supima is a brand of Pima cotton that, according to my research and experience, is the best quality, durability and softness on the market.
