The flame effect is very good. It does have to be pretty dark for them to come on, for example I have some other solar lights with start to work around 9pm (summer time), these come on about an hour later - but it's not an issue for me. They are very bright. You wouldn't be able to read a book with them, but they give off a nice orange glow.I guess the real test is how long they last. They give a very good flame effect.There is just one thing that I think could be improved at the time of manufacture. I feel they need at least one screw hole in the bottom of the lantern as tightening the two screw holes at the top makes the bottom of the lanterns stick out slightly from the post. There is room for the extra fixing hole but I didn’t want to drill one in case there were electrics underneath.
