Celebrated for its originality and sharp social critique, this collection is a must-have for literature enthusiasts, students, and anyone eager to engage with timeless, provocative prose. With a strong 4.5-star rating and a curated selection of works, it offers both academic value and cultural insight. ## Description The originality, concentrated power and "fierce indignation" of his satirical writing have earned Jonathan Swift (1667 ;;1745) a reputation as the greatest prose satirist in English language. Gulliver's Travels is, of course, his world-renowned masterpiece in the genre; however, Swift wrote other, shorter works that also offer excellent evidence of his inspired lampoonery. Perhaps the most famous of these is "A Modest Proposal," in which he straight-facedly suggests that Ireland could solve its hunger problems by using its children for food. Also included in this collection are "The Battle of the Books," "A Meditation upon a Broomstick," "A Discourse Concerning the Mechanical Operation of the Spirit," and "An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity in England. " This inexpensive edition will certainly be welcomed by teachers and students of English literature, but its appeal extends to any reader who delights in watching a master satirist wield words as weapons. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Country Of Origin | USA | | Dimensions | 13.21 x 0.41 x 20.98 cm | | Importer | Bookswagon, 2/13 Ansari Road, Daryaganj, New Delhi 110002, Sales@bookswagon.com , 01140159253 | | Isbn 10 | 0486287599 | | Isbn 13 | 978-0486287591 | | Item Weight | 1 kg 50 g | | Language | English | | Net Quantity | 60.00 Grams | | Packer | Bookswagon, 2/13 Ansari Road, Daryaganj, New Delhi 110002, Sales@bookswagon.com , 01140159253 | | Print Length | 64 pages | | Publication Date | 2 January 2000 | | Publisher | Dover Publications Inc. | | Reading Age | 14 years and up | ## Images ![A Modest Proposal and Other Satirical Works (Thrift Editions) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81Qoe9acp4L.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Format** options. *by on Reviewed in Italy 9 June 2015* Una satira davvero spassosa se non fosse tristissima. ## Frequently Bought Together - A Modest Proposal and Other Satirical Works (Dover Thrift Editions) - 1984: 75th Anniversary - Heart of Darkness: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.uk/products/81217747-a-modest-proposal-and-other-satirical-works-thrift-editions](https://www.desertcart.co.uk/products/81217747-a-modest-proposal-and-other-satirical-works-thrift-editions) --- *Product available on Desertcart United Kingdom* *Store origin: GB* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
