Thanks **Q: Why is there a need for a rivet for a 6x6 post** A: The end bracket for each slat is connected with a linkage. This link is screwed in to each bracket during the last step. If you center each bracket on a 6x6 you will not be able to access the bracket to insert a screw. The brackets are just over 4 inches wide so the post will cover the where the linkage is connected. Overall, one of the better hardware values I've come across in a while. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product with an install kit fail... *by C***R on October 26, 2025* I bought this set for a BBQ shack I built. The kit was poorly packaged for shipping, but that's not a problem with the product. Inside, the kit is well-built, with good quality components. The instructions are fair; not great but usable. There was one major issue that anyone buying this needs to watch out for. There is a steel strip that is included. It's a template for laying out the screw holes in the posts. It works great... But... the strip is not marked top/bottom or any other way, and the distance from the first hole to the end of the template is different at each end! (See the photos) You can lay it out either way on your posts. But when you go to the other side, you may not realize that the two ends are drilled differently, and they don't line up, so it's a 50/50 chance you'll get it wrong and end up with a slanted installation. I didn't realize it was off until I was done. It's not fixable without complete disassembly, plugging holes and restaining the posts, and redoing it all. The takeaway... mark the template with top/bottom or something. Doesn't matter how you do it, just make sure you have the same end up on both sides! Otherwise... Really great looks and functionality. I found that tightening the screws a tiny bit more than they say works really well for my needs; I don't need to move the louvers often, so just a bit of friction helps hold them in place. Also, be sure and keep all your screws safe during the install. There are NO extra long screws, although there are a couple of short screws and 1 extra spacer. Don't lose the long ones! I am buying 4 more kits to complete this shack. I love these things.
