Review: Poor resolution and breaks after 4 years - What I originally thought was a good dashcam turned out to be disappointing. When replaying the recorded video and pictures on a computer display, the resolution is poor. It's hard to make out even car number plates -which defeat its purpose. And my cam completely broke after 4 years. It just stopped charging one day and didn't respond at all since. I had not moved it from the car. Don't pay extra for the brand. Its just like other cheap junk.
Review: Best dash cam so far (out of four). - Update. My 55 has been in use since May 18th with no overheat shutdowns. On June 9th I updated from software version 2.30 to version 2.70. Still running with no shutdowns. *** This is the best Garmin dash cam so far. When operated in the “1080p, 30fps, HDR” mode, the scenery ahead no longer goes white when driving through a dark underpass, as it did with the Gamin 20 and 35. The voice control works well, even when spoken at conversational levels and not looking at the camera. I really like to be able to take a picture without reaching for a button on the camera. The camera is so small that it is completely hidden from me by my rearview mirror. The time-lapse video feature is pretty cool. And audio recording feature has returned after an absence on the Garmin 35. I don’t consider the Forward Collision Warning System or the Lane Departure Warning System a nuisance. They make you think about your driving a bit more. Anyway, you can turn them off. I have not experienced any overheating problems with the camera, even though I have parked with the camera in the direct sun light on hot days. I have the screen brightness set at 60% but I can’t say if that has had any effect on the temperature of the camera. It does get warm. Directing air conditioning partially toward the windshield might help, if there is a problem. The small size does make the camera less noticeable to someone passing by. I installed a circularly polarized lens on my camera which had the salutary effect of covering that gold band on the camera lens. The polarized lens reduces windshield/dashboard glare on bright days and especially when traveling toward the sun. See attached photo. The magnetic mount is very convenient. I am sure it will be more reliable than suction cups when the weather turns cold. I am also sure the camera is going to go flying in an accident, but at least it will show all the facts and circumstances up to the impact. I had rigged up a magnetic mount using four super magnets for my Gamin 35 and it flew off when I slammed on the brakes to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me. My one gripe is the 1 minute video clip length. I would rather it be 3 or 5 minutes. The Garmin software chokes up when trying to splice together hundreds of clips from a long car trip. This is the best of four dash cams that I have. (20, 35 and KDlinks X1) I will report back if there are any overheating problems.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can someone please give an update on their experience with this product after the update recently released?**
A: I purchased my DC55 on 05-Jan this year and hardwire installed it with the parking cable on 07-Jan. Mine was delivered with version 2.70 and I initially had no shutdowns, but starting in May the DC shuts down after a just a few minutes every time I use it. My commute is 26 minutes each way and the DC55 is down for up to 18 minutes! I downloaded and installed Garmin's latest SW update last week but it had no effect (don't even know if the latest software was intended to address temp shutdown). Anyway, my Blackvue DR750S-2CH was delivered today and I'm installing it in a few minutes.

**Q: Does the software update actually fix the overheating problems? Overheating sounds like a hardware problem (not a software problem) ?**
A: No. Camera Overheats and shuts off.
Operating temperature range: From -20° to 55°C (from -4° to 131°F).
It is a joke. Had to buy another dash cam (AuKey DR01 - $57). No problems with the heat. Operating temperature - up to 176 F.

**Q: If I want to use it in my 2nd car, should I purchase another mount piece?**
A: You can always make one. I bought a pack of steel, 7/8 inch washers and a roll of 3M, 1 inch wide, double sided automotive grade tape. I cut a tape square, fastened it to a cleaned washer and trimmed the excess. It's then ready to adhere to any location you want. I attached one of these washers to an old suction cup radar detector mount, and now I can put my camera just about anywhere. The suction cup is designed for a much heavier detector, so this camera is light work. Best of all, I can remove the whole setup between vehicles at any time and put it wherever I want. I really like the ability to place the camera in the back of the vehicle to keep an eye on the valet, or in my case, that mechanic who turns the test drive in to a joy ride.

**Q: How are the night pictures and video?**
A: The video is excellent! My drive to work is an hour and it is dark when I leave for work. Very good night video. I’ve not saved or made night photos so cannot comment other than to say that I would expect them to be good as well based on the video.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Terrific Dash Cam Ideal For My Car
*by G***U on 24 October 2019*

As a recent purchase, the Garmin works beautifully, although I'm still learning the nuances of some of the automated warnings (dings). I love the small size but big features. It sits at the top left corner of the windshield and does not obstruct my view whatsoever. The GPS unit is actually built into the camera, unlike some others that advertise included GPS but is actually external on the power cord. Connecting through Bluetooth to phone was easy. Picture quality is very good. So far, so good.
