They were all in great shape. I tried one out right away. It takes a good squeeze, as most due, to pop the inner contents to start the cold process, but it wasn't that difficult. Definitely don't cut into it, pound it with a hammer, or anything like that to get it to pop as that won't make it work right. I shook up the contents and it immediately got cold and lasted well over 30 minutes at the coldest and then diminished slowly after that, which is what these are meant to do--provide temporarily cold for injuries. So, if you're expecting hours of relief from one package, that's unrealistic. If the contents are shaken thoroughly, that will reduce your results, too. But following the directions and knowing what it's all for seems to produce the results one should expect.
