Perfect accessory for iOS devices
First, look at the price. It's cheaper than the Audio-Technica version of the same microphone. Next, look at the features and all the ways this microphone can be used. It can connect to Android and iOS based smartphones and tablets to enhance audio performance for video recordings. It can also be used with a DSLR camera as it has an option to be power driven (battery included) which takes away the need for a shotgun microphone when vlogging or doing reviews. Lastly, check out the cord! It has a 20' long cord - unheard of for most lapel mics. This allows you to walk around and do demonstrations on video without having to move the camera. No loss of audio as the microphone is attached to your lapel and moves with you. The audio pickup of this microphone is omni-directional and it definitely makes a positive difference when using it. I picked up this mic after doing some research for microphones I could use with my iPad and iPhone to enhance onboard sound. This one is perfect for my uses and at twenty bucks the price was right too. An excellent accessory I highly recommend! ----------------------------- NOTE: If you go to playback a video you recorded using this mic and you don't hear anything, unplug it from the device and you should hear the recording. ---------------------------

Affordable and Versatile Microphone for Crisp Audio
The BOYA BY-M1 microphone has been a fantastic addition to my setup! Whether Iโm recording on my smartphone, DSLR camera, or PC, this mic delivers clear and professional audio. The 3.5mm jack with the 1/4" adapter ensures compatibility with a variety of devices, making it incredibly versatile. The sound quality is really good. Perfect for vlogging, interviews, or even live streaming. I appreciate the long cable, which provides flexibility for different recording setups. Itโs also lightweight and easy to carry, which is great for on-the-go content creation. For the price, the performance is outstanding. If youโre looking for a budget-friendly microphone that doesnโt compromise on quality, I highly recommend the BOYA BY-M1. Itโs a reliable tool for any content creator or professional needing crisp, clear audio.

Good but not great constructon quality. Very good audio for the price
For a lavaliere mic that costs $20-25, depending on the day, this is a good buy. The mic capsule is a little above average in size. The cord is very long and that's great when you want to shoot wide but nit invest in wireless mics. The construction is the biggest issue. The inline amp unit (where the battery goes) has a button for switching between Smartphone (also serves as the "off" position) and for DSLR cameras. That button was very stuck when I first got the unit. It took way more effort than I was comfortable with pushing a little plastic slider. And the button did get off kilter when I finally got it to move. It works ok right now. It has a weird, sort of splashy feel to it. Like it's not fully in the "on" position when it's there. This will most likely be the point of catastrophic failure when it does happen. The other big disappointment is the mic clip. After only a handful of uses, none of them rigorous or stressful, the mic side of the clip just broke. It's a little U-shaped plastic bit. You have to slip the mic capsule into it. It pops in and then you shouldn't really have to touch that part again. This week, as I was putting it on the speaker I was trying to record, it just... gave way. I clipped the tie clip part on and the mic capsule just flopped out. The U-shaped clip had just broken. absolutely nothing happened to predict that. That's a real bummer. Overall, it's a good unit, especially for the price. Pickup is nice and round so it's good for getting both sides of a conversation. Noise is at a minimum for the type of mic it is. clipping can be managed with mic distance (but don't forget to turn off the DSLR amp first). Roll-off doesn't seem to bad but I haven't recorded many basses yet, baritones at best.

Five years later and itโs sticking good!!!
I purchased this back in 2019 because I was continuing to do more and more on-location reporting. I combined this with the H1 handy Zoom recorder. I continue to be impressed by the audio quality as it does a great job picking up just your vocals in a loud area as it makes that background noise barely noticeable. When itโs time for me to clean up and enhance the audio in a program like Adobe Audition, I donโt have to do that much work. Very solid mic quality out the gate. I also appreciate the length of the cord. The pictures Iโve attached do not do it justice but this cord goes about 20 feet. So you can connect yourself directly to whatever youโre recording and move around at the same time without feeling restricted. I appreciate the clip on for the mic and the clip-on thatโs on the actual device although I usually like to leave it in my pocket. Iโve used it a few times each year since 2019 and the battery that comes with it still works to this day. Pro-tip: As you can see in the photo the switch has to be down. When you have it this way the device is off. If you ever see this switch up towards cameras and you see green exposed underneath, your device is on. The battery will drain even if you arenโt connected to anything. Always make sure your device is off when inoperable. In a day and age where a lot of low budget Bluetooth mic devices have connectivity issues, wired mics like this are awesome. I also recommend using this with a Rode SC4 so you can truly tap and enhance the sound from this microphone while also investing in a Type C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter for you iPad and phone users out there. Good luck!

Decent for an affordable lav mic
I use this as an occasional backup or alternative mic depending on the videos I need to record. And it's pretty good from my experience. Some of the pros can be seen as cons depending on your situation, and I think some of the other minor issues stem from the lavalier microphone format. - First thing is that depending on where the mic is clipped and proximity to your chest and mouth, the audio can be more bass heavy than reality. This can be adjusted in editing or offset by being clipped to a second layer of clothing like a jacket. - Next is the cord length. I see this as a pro because you can get farther away from the camera without needing some sort of wireless system. Though of course you get the cons and nuisances of having cords in general. The cord is long, so it's easy to get tangled if not managed properly and if you move around with the mic, it can get caught and tangled on things. But that's par for the course. Since it is wired, it's best used while sitting relatively still, but the length can still allow for wider and more versatile shots. - The mic can be powered either through the camera or other device or battery powered externally on the small and light pack which also has an on / off switch to prevent unnecessary battery drain when not in use. The battery power option is great because I use canon vixia camcorders, which offer no power through the mic port. - The on / off switch can be seen as a downside depending on who you are, because if you leave it on I think you will drain the battery, but I may be wrong. - One thing that is pretty annoying and is truly a downside, at least on my model, is that I have a very hard time removing the mic from the clip to flip the mic's orientation. I always have to clip the mic on my right side of my cloths because of this. The attachment point for the mic is fixed, so you can't rotate it either. You would have to do as stated above and remove the mic and reinsert it the other way. I think the problem is that the attachment clip is so strong, and the microphone is so small. When trying to remove it, I feel like I'm going to break something. Overall this is still a good product in my experience, especially for the price.

Good quality and super affordable--very pleased with this purchase
Works as described. I use this for YouTube videos with my Canon 5d III because the built-in camera audio is... let's say, "less than ideal." This little lavalier mic plugs right into the camera and is good to go. (Just have to make sure the battery is installed and that the button on the mic is on the "camera" setting.) It picks up my voice really well, even if I don't project, and it does a decent job of cutting out background noise even before I edit the audio for my taste. So excited to have found this as it vastly improved my audio--and for a few bucks UNDER $20! That's amazing. :) (When I purchased this, there was a coupon offer for a few dollars off the list price, so I think I only paid about $17, tax and all.) The bag it came with is better quality than I expected for the price, and the mic seems solid and well-made. The little windscreen can fall off easily, so keep track of it if you don't want to have to get a new one down the road. I know some people complain about the length of the cable (it is much longer than I need for most situations), but I truly don't mind it. I keep it neatly bundled when I'm not using it, and when I am using it I just let out the length that I need and secure the rest of it together. I have not had any serious issues with it getting tangled or in my way while I am filming.

Poor sensitivity
Although it seems to be well made & woks ok, the sensitivity is a disappointment. It is rated at 30 db and is much less sensitive than one have that is rated at 38 db. In fact, it is only slightly more sensitive than my decades old Radio Shack which is rated at 72 db. That comparison was made with a new tested battery (the battery that came with it was run down).

Nice quality, excellent sound, terrific value
This works very well, and seems to be better quality than expected. The sound is also much better than anticipated, especially at this price point. My fairly low male voice sounds great. Spoke words are very intelligible and clear, and the tone of the voice is quite excellent, natural with a very full frequency spectrum, including robust, but clear, bass and midrange. It can be a bit sibilant, on my voice, which is the only one I have tried it on. But the sibilance is easily addressed in recording software like Cubase, Logic, Audacity Reason, Pro Tools etc. This type of mic is optimized for use with 3.5mm TRS input devices like many cameras, and some computers and soundcards. This is perfect for devices that do not supply "plug-in" power through their microphone jacks. It does not seem to have a high level of self-noise.

Buen Micrรณfono

A great mic with good wire length. Great wind isolation.
A great mic with good wire length. I used it outdoors at the beach on a windy day it recorded great. I am so happy to have purchased it. I had to use the 3.5mm to usb c adaptor to be able to use it on my mobile (Ofcourse you probably already now that, but it's worth mentioning)
