Not for long term frequent use
They work great at first. These are not built to last. I ran a homeless shelter using these radios for the staff to communicate. programmed to the permit free frequencies. they work well for a little while but I found I had to replace a few every 6-12months due to heavy usage. The belt clips breaks when the spring and pins don’t stay in place, the batteries swell, the antennas come loose at the connection point giving you static transmissions.

There's a good reason this is one of the most popular radios around.
I'm no HAM operator, and not really interested in becoming one. I've programmed in GMRS and FRS for actual communication between radios, and a large variety of local government agencies for listening in. The earpieces are great, and not usually included in such a reasonably priced unit. I love 'em!
