desertcart.com: Stephen King: The Non-Fiction eBook : Wood, Rocky, Brooks, Justin: Books Review: 6 Star "King"dom - Anything by Stephen King is 6 stars in my library! I began reading him years ago, and I think he is the best modern day writer and story teller. When I taught middle school, I bribed the kids into getting their work done by promising to read some of King's (slightly) edited short stories on Fridays. They encouraged each other and would do any assignment to hear him. I also had them close their eyes and visualize the words coming to life. You could just see the smiles on their faces or their eyes moving rapidly behind their lids. To demo descriptive writings, I used King as an example. Then, I challenged them to imagine something within the classroom to come to life as King would do, and write a descriptive story. They were excited to write!!!! And these kids were not honor classes - they were just normal middle school kids who loved using their imaginations. And it was my pleasure to read to them. This book was very insightful into the life and mind of Stephen King. Really enjoyed it! Review: My deduction of this book - Most of the stories were right down Stephen Kings line and great. I enjoyed them and hope others do too.

From The Beginning, Always A Writer
This book was incredibly interesting to me, being a huge Stephen King fan, because it paints a portrait of where his writing passion came from - his school newspapers, self-published works, and other interesting bits of writing that stemmed from his real-life experience. This book is more like a cross between a biography and an encyclopedia of works that, if you have a copy of them, are a very lucky person. Kudos to Rocky Wood for once again showing that he is a master researcher. Some of these items would have been forgotten to the ether. It must have been fun to read some of King's articles when he was in college! I would recommend this book only to the King enthusiast, or perhaps someone at least relatively interested in King's personal writing, as it is a tedious book with lots of information, and really is more of a special interest piece.

Not ALL non-fiction by fiction writers misses the mark
For example, King's recent essay "Guns" I found to be an outstanding example. I have found MANY of his examples of non-fiction to rise above the ordinary. But, of the current collection, I felt somewhat disappointed.Of course, I may be missing the mark; I an far from being an acedemician (I apparently cannot even spell it correctly). That is why I once I comented would find it enthralling to read an essay on the cleaning and care of firearms... if the said essay were penned by the illustrious Mr. King. In other words, I would probably find ANYTHING he writes interesting. 'Nuff Said.

I am not one for rating apps or books etc on my kindle but this one really deserves it. Why WOW you may ask.. Two reasons.. the first being for the well known legend Stephen King... The sheer volume of his work is extraordinary and if you are just a normal fan you would never see this side to him.. The second reason, is for this book. Others like this look into the non fiction etc but can be easily obtained. The research that went into this is incredible and i for one am grateful because this will help with my collection building. Finding out info on all the works spanning half a century must have been so rewarding, even if time consuming. I would advise anyone to buy this and the money you pay is worth it..

A bit dry but pretty detailed. Only goes up to 2006 but well worth dipping in and out of. Would be good to see an updated version.
