I ordered the Farpoint Trek 55L in Black. The Farpoint is designed as a travel backpack for men. [The Fairpoint for women.] The Trek version emphasizes the backpacking aspect, where the non-Trek version is more focused on the luggage aspect, providing a tensioned mesh backpanel. So what makes this backpack ready for travel? With 24x13.5x4.5” dimensions, it is sized as carry-on luggage — but a fully-stuffed pack might not qualify and they make no carry-on claims. The size will allow it to fit in the overhead compartment of the larger sized airplanes. It provides large lay-flat panel access to the main storage compartment. A padded side carry handle. A cover is included to contain all the snagging straps and buckles. The cover has its own side carry handle, a top lift handle, and an ID tag window. I have owned an Osprey pack before, and this one has all the qualities I appreciate about them. It is a well thought out design, durable, comfortable, with all the bells and whistles. The tensioned mesh back panel is a key positive feature. It can be raised up to 4” from its bottom rung. I raised it up all the way because the more the weight can be distributed higher up on the shoulders, the more comfortable and stable the pack is. The AirCover covers the entire backpack so there are no loose ends during the travel process. It is laminated to also serve as a raincover, and the seams are taped. The cover folds up to a somewhat bulky 8x5.5x1.5” dimension, and needs to be if it is going to fit over a fully-loaded backpack. There are too many features to list, but here are a few: A breathable mesh back panel that allows air to flow between your back and the pack, keeping your back cool. [It works well!] High-quality durable zippers and pulls. Padded shoulder straps with cinch straps at the top and an adjustable height sternum strap. A comfortably padded hip belt with easy to tighten/loosen buckles. If a hydration bladder is added, there is an exit point where the tube can be snaked out through the pack, and straps on the shoulders to restrain the tube at the front. It accepts the 15 liter Farpoint Travel Daypack [https://www.amazon.com/Osprey-Farpoint-Fairview-Travel-Daypack/dp/B0FGY1RRRM/ref=sr_1_2], which gets attached to the back using two lateral straps that run across the front. It comes with a guarantee: “Any reason. Any product. Any era.” The few drawbacks: Osprey claims “dual internal compression straps to keep contents in place”. They are shown in a profile photo, but I can assure you there aren’t any in mine. The hip belt pockets sit too far back to be easily accessible — but this is hard to avoid without going to a totally different hip belt system. It would be nice if the pack would stand up vertically, but it promptly falls forward flat on the floor when released. The main compartment zipper is hard to zip open/closed. [Due to flaps that allow a daypack to be attached to the pack.] I tested out the backpack on two 45 minute hikes with 35 pounds loaded in. The pack remained comfortable and the contents stable during all my hikes; an improvement over my old Osprey. Overall, this is one of the best backpacks I have owned and I am already using it regularly. The quality fully justifies its cost. This is the backpack to buy if you are flying to a destination and plan to do some sports activities there. I will use it when I go on my riverboat cruise this Spring.
