Review: The Winter-Proof Lighting Fix: Reliable Power for Outdoor Motion Lights - I’ve been looking for a way to beef up the power for my back door security lighting, and this DC UPS has exceeded my expectations. I have an LED floodlight on a motion detector for our dogs, which is normally powered by a solar panel. However, as the days got shorter and the nights got longer, the solar panel couldn't keep the light's internal battery topped off. The light was dying halfway through the night—right when we needed it most. This UPS has completely solved that "winter drain" problem. The setup was incredibly fast; once I identified a spot that was sheltered from the weather, it only took about five minutes to hook up. The unit comes with a generous selection of cords and various adapters, which made it easy to bridge the gap between my power source and the light. It’s a versatile little box that has me already thinking about where else I can use one. Solving the Solar Gap In a typical solar setup, if the panel doesn't get 6+ hours of direct sun, your devices suffer. By placing this DC UPS between the power source and the light, you create a buffer. It stores enough energy to ensure the motion detector stays active and the LEDs stay bright all night long. It’s an elegant, "set-and-forget" solution that bridges the gap between unreliable solar and constant security. What I Liked Instant Fix for Solar Failures: Provides the extra "juice" needed to get solar lights through long winter nights. Highly Versatile Hardware: The multiple included cords and adapters mean it works with a wide variety of barrel-jack devices. Rapid Installation: Simple "plug-and-play" design that took less than 5 minutes to wire up. Compact Footprint: Small enough to tuck into a junction box or run into attic going under a sheltered eave. Reliable Power Delivery: Handles the "surge" of a motion-activated LED floodlight without dropping voltage. Pro-Tip for Outdoor Use Weather Shielding: Since these mini-UPS units aren't usually IP65-rated (fully waterproof), make sure to mount it inside a plastic weather-shielded box or inside attic like I did. Keeping it out of the rain and direct snow is a must. A "must-have" for anyone struggling with solar-powered devices in the winter. Exceeds expectations in both build quality and included accessories. Perfect for LED lights, cameras, routers, or any 12V/9V/5V DC device. Affordable enough to buy multiples for different zones of the house. If you have a "smart" or "solar" home and find your devices dying when it gets dark, this is the answer. It’s reliable, easy to install, and provides exactly the backup power needed for peace of mind. I’m definitely ordering a few more for my other outdoor gear!

## Features

- 56Wh High-Energy:Built with a 56Wh (3.6V 15600mAh) lithium battery designed for stable DC output.Compared with standard 3.7V-rated power banks, the higher system voltage delivers more efficient and consistent power for network equipment.

### ⭐⭐⭐ USB-C PD Port is SO useful, but only a single 12v DC output and 2 amps total at 12v, is a fatal flaw
*by S***. on April 7, 2026*

So many things right, with one fatal flaw: only a single 12v DC output. There's so many things to love with the Melasta Mini as an internet backup / UPS type device: the fact that it does direct DC out means that failover will be fast and seamless and the battery will last as long as possible because it doesn't use any stupid wall wort DC to AC conversions. The fact that it supports USB-C PD input AND output also makes it just PERFECT for long power outages with the strategy that I prefer. Specifically, it allows you to permanently have your internet router powered off of the Melasta mini UPS's 12v DC output, this will allow seamless switch to the built in battery power during a short outage, but as an outage continues for longer and the built-in battery starts to run low, you can just connect a USB-C cable between the Melasta and a larger 1kwh or 2 kwh battery backup "generator" like the Bluetti, EcoFlow, Jackery, Anker, etc. The solution gives you hierarchical simple backup and failover for short or long-term outages with only a USB-C cable and it maintains end-to-end DC which maximizes battery life. The fatal flaw for my approximately gig speed Xfinity cable internet is that I need to power both the 12v cable modem AND my WIFI 7 WIFI router and at peak speeds the two of them can pull 2.5 amps. The Melasta Mini DC UPS has only a single 12v output and supports a max of 2 amps of current. This thing really needed 2 12v DC outputs and more current. They seem to be one of the only or the only mini DC UPS that supports that awesome bidirectional USB-C PD connector, but I just can't use it as there's not enough amps of 12v power.
