## Description

The high fidelity Omnidirectional microphone capsule is in a factory assembled housing with a durable, removable alligator clip with a black finish. - This mic is designed specifically for use with the “mic input” jack that provides "plug-in power" having voltage output from between 1.5 to 10 volts. The cable is 6 feet long. Please NOTE the following for recorder compatibility. These mics and all others like it are not compatible with mixers and most cameras, smartphones and recorders that do not have "plug in power." The phantom power from mixers will fry the mic elements. The max voltage is 10 volts. Do not use XLR or 1/4 input jacks whatsoever as they provide phantom power that is more than 10 volts and will damage the mics. Also most cameras and smart phones are not compatible because they are not made for good quality audio.

Review: Giant Squid Audio Lab Omnidirectional Lavalier mic - Just got & tested it today. Recording it threw my Zoom h1 , and Sony ICD-PX312 recorders. I noticed right away this mic was hot enough that I didn't have to turn my input level past 50% on my Zoom h1 and it recorded noiselessly and with a nice bassier sound same as my Rode VideoMic & I like that. I only had a RadioShack Lav mic that takes a button cell battery & is a pain in the Ax*$ trying to record with, because I would just get threw recording something and notice I hadn't flipped the switch on the RadioShack POS. Recording with that POS , I would get low sound levels. Having to turn it up in post, or having to set my Zoom h1 input levels up to 75% or higher to hear the recording & then hear the room noise levels because I had to turn the input level so high. I was pleasantly suprized how well my recording was threw the Giant Squid in to the Sony ICD-PX 312 . Nice bassy sound just as with the Zoom h1. I thought my Sony recorder was a POS until today. If I would have purchased this Giant Squid before. I wouldn't have shelled out that $100 for the Zoom h1. Though the Sony only records in MP3...This Giant Squid makes recording much more acceptable . The build quality is high, and recording quality is high as well . It does not require a battery, just plug in and record. Also, something you don't see very often is MADE IN U.S.A., in PA. Thus the five star rating. Before you blame your recorder for poor quality. I suggest you try this lavalier microphone. It may just save you $100.
Review: Great mic - I tried ever possible combination in order to get a lav mic to work with my iPhone 6s+... the headphone jack needs a trrs and not just a trs, so I got a trrs adaptor... the lav mic I had still didn’t work after trying 2 different versions of this adaptor... I tried using a lightening to 3.5mm adaptor to go with the lav mic I had... didn’t work. At this point I’m getting frustrated. Finally I decided it was my $130 sennheiser lav mic that was the problem. I bought this $50 lav mic and hooked it up to my iPhone 6s+ with a trrs adaptor and it worked perfectly. Turns it there is something specific that the sennheiser lav mic just doesn’t like about being used with trrs adaptors to iPhones. Funny enough, I can use that exact sennheiser lav mic directly into my canon 60d (it came with a wireless kit for use with these types of cameras) and the sennheiser lav mic works just fine. So... this mic worked great and has more than adequate audio quality for the price. 6ish ft of wire is a plus as well... thanks to the guy on YouTube who recommeneddd this lav mic (likely not knowing he was solving 2 problems in 1).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can I plug this directly into my desktop pc's sound card? Would the omni or cardioid be better for extraneous noise reduction?**
A: No, it needs 1.5-9volts power. Notice most comments mention using a Zoom H1 or like. Those are battery-powered digital recorders, and provide power to the mic input, which makes the mic work. Cardioid is better for extraneous noise reduction because it rejects surrounding noise. I have this mic in omni, and for talking head videos, it's the best. Cardioid would be better for outside recording where there is ambient noises.

**Q: Is there a deadcat available for this lav mic?**
A: Good question. I would imagine so, but I don't have any for mine yet.I should pick up a couple dead kittens for outdoor use.

**Q: Where can i get replacement windscreens for this mic? the one that comes with it falls off way too easily. other than that, i love this little mic.**
A: Tetra-Teknica MNWSDP. They are sold here at Amazon.comSecure them to the mics with a twist tie.

**Q: can this work on an I phone 11?**
A: Not as is. You would need a powered adapter to make it work. I'm not sure if they make those

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great mic, read how to use it.

It tool me many tries and years to finally get what I wanted out of this mic. Does it record to a dlsr camera yes, (caution) "the mic need a little power for it to work, so for example if you plug it into a mixer with no phantom power it will not work. As the instructions say, don't hook up to mixer with phantom power it will destroy your mic." With that said, it's a hit or miss when it would work well, or not. I would prefer if the 3.5mm connection was just straight now the L shape. When connecting to a camera, because of it body shape you don't always get a good clean connection thus maybe only left channel picked up, or very buzzy sound. When it connects good yes its great, but if the connect wiggles just a little all hope fir your audio is gone. However the saving grace is to buy the Rode VXLR PRO. it has a built It Transformer. Meaning, with the Rode VXLR PRO you can use phantom power from a mixer to power the mic and it won't blow it up. Finally I can use a lave mic with my mixer or portable audio interface on the go anywhere with the giant squid, the audio from it is insane!
