Review: Excellent book - This is such a great one in the Phaidon series of culinary books. The author introduces each section in a narrative and approachable way, and includes sketches here and there illustrating techniques or equipment to boot. It does a great job highlighting where in the region a particular recipe is from and provides an awesome preface explaining basics to give you a solid foundation for the recipes that lay ahead.

This is such a great one in the Phaidon series of culinary books. The author introduces each section in a narrative and approachable way, and includes sketches here and there illustrating techniques or equipment to boot. It does a great job highlighting where in the region a particular recipe is from and provides an awesome preface explaining basics to give you a solid foundation for the recipes that lay ahead.

I love perusing this book and have really enjoyed cooking from it. I was happily surprised to find a soup section in a baking book. The soups include several that were regular features at my Icelandic grandmother's table.
