I'm not sure where the respondent got the idea it contained shrimp paste, but it may have in an earlier version. However I would argue depending on the sourcing of the sugar it may not be either vegetarian or vegan since they use animal bone shards to process some cane sugar. I'm not sure if this is the case in Asia but it is in the United States. **Q: What’s the paste to coconuts ratio?** A: The recipe I use (from "Quick And Easy Thai" by Nancie McDermott calls for 2 to 3 tablespoons to one and one half cups unsweetened coconut milk. I found that 3 tablespoons was on the spicier side so I use slightly less (about 2 1/2 tablespoons).
