'Nevill Coghill's easy, seductive translation ensures that this, the most popular work in English Literature - now 600 years old - will run through yet more centuries' Melvyn Bragg In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer created one of the great touchstones of English literature. A storytelling competition within a group of pilgrims from all walks of life is the occasion for a series of tales that range from the Knight's account of courtly love and the ebullient Wife of Bath's Arthurian legend to the ribald anecdotes of the Miller and the Cook. This masterly and vivid modern English verse translation retains all the vigour and poetry of Chaucer's fourteenth-century Middle English. Translated by NEVILL COGHILL Review: Stories of pilgrims on their way - This work is part of the Great Middle English Poetics. Written by Geoffrey Chaucer " The Father of English Poetry", it was a verse about tales of pilgrims to Canterbury. Note that this work remained unfinished yet as it was the last work of Chaucer. Neville Coghill's fluid translation conveys both the rhyme and readibility. Review: Nice - Good

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer (translated by Nevill Coghill)
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer (translated by Nevill Coghill) If you're an enthusiast of Renaissance literature, go for it. Stories ranging from spiritual to social culture. I've read this after having Decameron by Boccaccio (Tales of Decameron, Penguin Classics). Was concerned if I would be able to grasp such a long poem, but timely finished it :-) and it was great experience. 1. Consists of 24 tales in poetry from including prologue to each. 2. Translation was easy for me to digest except few stories which are full of medieval english words. 3. Many a stories are incomplete without any hints. 4. 3 stories are, what I say, is same to same as tales from Decameron. 5. I loved the Knight's Tale the most. Interested of medieval literature, go for it.

Masterpiece about human psychology.
That the basic human psychology remains the same irrespective of different lands and different epochs.

The Canterbury Tales
The book is interesting, but not my cup of tea. No fault of the author. I did read some of it and it quenched my curiosity as I wanted to know what the Canterbury tales were about.

beautiful book, but the colour is wildly different - a dark pine green rather than the blue depicted online
