I need to use one hand to hold and one hand to fire.** A: 49 year old woman with tendinitis and rotator cuff issues. It definitely takes both hands and some pressure for me--more if I need to get the staples all the way in, reliably; less if I just need them to grab and hold. Overhead, I can do 50, take a long break, then another 50, in a day. If I want a perfect job, maybe 30 staples, and pressing downwards or sideways, not overhead. On the good side, it jams way less than some supposedly "self firing" staplers I have used, and I don't fear nailing myself in the thigh if I get careless and roll onto it (a grounded fear based on a prior bad experience). And it'll hold up to a more powerful user whaling away at it, without going wonky. **Q: is there a safety release? I can't get it to fire a staple** A: No safety release. You probably have a staple stuck in the firing mechanism. Two of mine started jamming constantly so I set them aside. Eventually, I contacted Arrow through their website, asking about repairs. They have a program that will fix your stapler for $8. I sent them both staplers and a week later, TWO NEW STAPLERS arrived at my door. Check that out. **Q: How do I know what size staples will be needed? Need to redo the fabric on my ottomon and seat covers.** A: For general purpose household use, I use the 3/8 for most jobs. You should measure how thick your cover material is and add how thick your wood is to get the right size. Example: doing cardboard strips over plastic sheet for window coverings, the cardboard is about 1/6" thick, the plastic sheet is 9ml thick, and the window frame is 1" thick. I would use 3/8" staples to get decent penetration or 1/2 - 17/32 if it was outside (due to wind). For my bike seat cover I used 3/8" and it work fine.
