It just extends the gap from the back of the flap to the front of it and fits really neatly together, we actually had to have 3 tunnel pieces as our was going through a newly built outside wall. However, we did find that we had to do some cat & dog training as they were not so keen to go through such a long crawl space straight away, one cat got it straight away but the other cat and the dachshunds were less keen, so that took about a week! **Q: We’ve already got an outdoors cat but are about to get a house cat as well. Easy to install. Only criticism, delay on locking when cat enters house, if a cat is tailing your cat, the tailer cat can enter, as takes about 7-8 seconds to lock.
