So, if you aren't taking your kid to a doctor for SPD then your kid might be confused by the book. (example: why don't I see a doctor) The book also explains the types of therapies that may benefit a child with SPD. So again, unless you are actually getting treatment for your child this book might confuse smaller children.If you are having a child see a doctor for SPD, then this would be ane excellent book to read to them so they know what to expect, etc. This could also be a good book to for their siblings/classmates so they can understand what the child with SPD is going through and what treatments may help. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Liked it, Loved it, want more like it! *by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2012* I'm a mother to 5 wonderful children the youngest two are also purely "sensational". I picked up this book hoping it would be beneficial for our family. I like how easy it is to read and follow. I absolutely love how it relates to my daughter, Becca. She enjoys looking through books and finding familiar things. She was able to relate to Ellie's "Miss Gail" because she has her own "Miss Stephanie". Ellie is helped by a special swing, mini-trampoline, and even a small brush for tactile stimulation. It was really nice to see her light up and make these comparisons herself! Now if only I could get some members of our family to read it and be enlightened to Sensory Integration issues. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Cute illustrations, needs some re-writing *by M***6 on Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2014* My kids and I like the illustrations, and the storyline does pretty well at explaining one child's experience with SPD and learning to handle it thru working with an occupational therapist. (In this case excessive spinning, sensitivity to touch, screaming and crying sessions, etc.) The OT part is explained well for a young child, but the beginning needs some re-writing to improve flow and understanding. I generally change the words as I read it to my children. (For example, when talking about her spinning it uses the term "multiple rotations", which is not age-appropriate for a book geared toward young children.)It does help children learn to label their experiences. The girl tends to just cry and scream, leaving her mother to wonder what the problem is. Later in the book, she starts to use her words to describe what the problem is. I don't have the book on hand now, but there's an illustration showing her saying things like, "too scratchy!", "too hot!", etc. That really helped my three-year-old start labeling his own negative experiences, which helped us know how to change things for him.
