I was blown away by this book, at the very first sight! I decided, then and there itself, that this book would have to adorn my bookshelf! But since the price tag, unsubsided one, was a tad too heavy on my wallet I decided to take my recourse to Amazon.in and I was taken on a fantasy ride by them, courtesy the price tag and the time it took for the book to be delivered which just happened to be just 5 days! Now for the book itself, I have to make a confession. I have not read a single book by George R. Martin, A Song of Ice & Fire or otherwise, but that has not stopped me from watching the visual outlet of the same! In fact, now I as know much fanatic as any hard-core fan of that franchise. This book was another shot in the arm in he quest for me. Starting off with the legendary times through the times of the First Men, the Children, the Giants, the beings of the Crannogmen Neck and an assortment of creatures and beings, that lie in between. It's like an anthropoligical guide to Westeros! I like the description of the fabled beasts of the Shivering Sea and also the legends of the Iron Islands pertaining to the ruling houses of the that cold, wet and windy islands! They have a unique tale of creation how they came to be, courtesy their Drowned God and all the myth related to Nagga's Jaw! I am a big fan of the North and House Stark and greatly like the fact that they are the oldest ruling house in the entire realm of Westeros! The story of the Wall, the Night's Watch, the Others and how the realm of men joined hands with the Children and the Giants to ward off a common enemy, the Wight! As the series is building to a climax, I can feel the palpitation a great conflagration with the Army of the Dead! The tale of Garth Greenhand and the Vale sounds like a rich folktale! I won't act as a spoiler, furthermore!
