**Q: does this unit take batteries? is there a way to run it on 12 volts only?**
A: Does not take batteries.  Use a 12 volt battery and an inverter or supply it the dc voltage that the power supply provides it with batteries.  You will just have to figure out how long they will last without a charger or put a solar charger on it.  Depends on your particular situation.

**Q: can this be used outdoors?**
A: The controller isn't waterproof, you can put it into a box.

**Q: Can you adjust this to deliver 4 pounds of water on each press of the button?  Will it withstand doing 4 pounds of water 300 times per session?**
A: Yes to #1.

300 times per session?  Depending on how long a session lasts...

**Q: Does it stay ON all the time or does it time out and turn off? Does it remember values through powee cycle?**
A: It stays on but screen dims to sleep but function continues. Not sure if function continues with interupted power. Did not test. Program and calibrations are safe.
