Great fire stick, plenty of rod to scrape, striker does an excellent job, and came in a very nice gift box. I bought 3, one for my two bob’s and one for my overland camper. Very large shower of sparks. Only down side is when you are scraping to collect filings, you have to be very delicate. This thing will spark EASY. Remove the paint coat and practice. Little jute twine, pine pitch, some fat wood and you have an easy fire starter

Carry this while hunting elk in Colorado. I have a tiny one that was a pain to use, this one is big enough that using is really easy. Would buy again.

this thing really puts out the sparks. No trouble at all to lite tender or fire starters. Good product.

I decided to give this a shot since it was on a promotion on facebook for a significant cost reduction/rebate. I had recently purchased a bayite version of a ferro rod that is the same size. It does make a very good spark so that's number on priority here. Now lets talk about the tool it comes with. It isn't the best in terms of spark production or ease of use. To create a spark you must first scrape away an area of the black coating, and the tool fails to do this as is. I generally carry a knife so that isn't an issue, but the fact that it should be able to do it on it's own without the need for another tool (knife) or say a rock in the wilderness, is of some importance. I highly prefer the bayite tool, but as far as ferro rods go, this is a solid ferro rod. There's no bells or whistles with the cord, and it's not as useful as the bayite's (paracord), but it holds the ferro rod and the tool together and I can wear it around my neck if need be so that's a plus. I'm not a great fire maker, but this ferro rod will put out enough sparks to light a fire for sure, and the length and diameter of the rod will make it long lasting. You can't go wrong buying the Holtzman's Ferro Rod if your goal is to start a fire without having a source flame to do so. It's a great survival tool that will surely last years to come.

I considered several large ferro rods, some at three times the price, before deciding on this one. I am no Daniel Boone outdoorsman but I wanted something to practice fire starting skills and to toss in my hiking/camping kit. I am glad I bought this one. I just got it, but it looks like it will meet my needs. Ferro rod, lanyard, and scraper are included. It’s beefy! After scraping off some of the protective coating, it throws sparks like crazy. If you are planning on gifting a ferro rod to someone, this is the one you want. It comes in a very, very nice presentation box. I don’t see how they can sell this thing, packaged this nicely, for the price. If you are looking for a serviceable ferro rod, don’t spend $30 or more, get this one.

I just gave it a try and works as declared, well elegantly packed, hope when I do really need it will work as well as I observed, should last a long time.

I know there's alot of F rods on the market so I decided to be a rebel. Get something with good quality in spark ease of use with scraping and thickness of material. This product has all that and then some. I was blown away with the presentation of the packaging. Like I didn't want to rip anything like on Christmas morning. After opening I knew this is going to be good. Nice avg. Size scraper that'll get you by. The extra paracord is ah nice touch. Which I feel should be standard. Lastly the spark Oh yeah baby. It's was so easy to get some with lil pressure then showtime. When I was scrapping of the coating it didn't take that long, I will buy again. For those with bear paws this size is prrrfkt..

I haven't used it yet. Looking forward to going camping. Very impressed with the quality.
