You see, one of my Hobbies is Pre-20th Century English Literature... and of course one of Miss Manner's Persona 'Shticks' is to adopt the Manners and Personality... And Language of the Edwardians and Victorians. She Really did a good job! she has Never broke Persona and said anything the least bit Contemporary.... well, maybe if the Joke she was working on really required it.Well, it has been a while since the 1990 and I found myself drifting back into Barbarism (oh, what is 'Barbarism'... well, it might as well be the New Jersey State Bird).I dug around in my Old Books and found "Miss Manners Rescues Civilization". Yes, my reading now is almost All Kindle... but I was reading Miss Manners by 'lamp light' while in bed prepared to go to sleep. The current librarian was retiring at the end of the year, and I had begged and pleaded with her to let me purchase the book. She told me how she was a Southern Belle in her youth, and how she and her friends were instructed to read it to learn proper etiquette. She smiled at me and said I could not buy the book from the library; and I was certain at that moment that I would never come across the book again (as it is out of print). When passing by the wedding planning section this week at the Barnes & Noble, I instantly remembered Miss Manners and looked for the book which I had so desperately wanted to read again. The Barnes & Noble, of course, did not carry it; but undeterred, I ran to my laptop as soon as I came home and searched for it here on Amazon. Within a few short days---I was not expecting it until next week) I received the package in the mail. Enclosed politely within the pages was a short and sweet little note asking that I leave feedback and promising accommodation should there be any complications; and so I thought I would share this little anecdote. The book is without question delightfully funny and an absolute must-read, for anyone inquiring assistance in the realm of etiquette; but the seller is also by far the most well-mannered I have come across on this site. The book is in wonderful condition and I would love to do business again. Judith Martin does give instruction as to correct and polite behavior in all phases of society, the workplace, as well as within a family, but her writing style is sweet and amusing. This is not written as a military manual.This is a good book for anyone to have, provided they care; some people don't. In what appears to be an ever-increasingly rude society, this book becomes important. Having good manners and exercising propriety will help a person in every area of their life, while also causing them to be a blessing to others. The core of this book is all about being thoughtful, considerate, and civilized. There are probably a great many people who want to possess these virtues, but they were never taught, nor have they seen these virtues modeled.It's a good thing when a person wants to be thoughtful, polite, considerate, and refined, but these desires useless until they are lived out in everyday life. Judith Martin will show you how.The book arrived in perfect condition and was carefully packaged. It took slightly longer to arrive than what I expected, but I contacted the seller and they were more than gracious.
