**Q: can i connect this to my scarlett 2i4 interface? it has midi outlets, and if so does it come with midi wires so i can connect it, play with pro tools?**
A: You would need a converter to connect it.  The Instrument 1 only has a 1/8th inch headphone/mic and a mini USB port.  I can't answer the Pro Tools question because Artiphon still hasn't sent me the instrument I paid them for many months ago.

**Q: Is it useful without an Iphone? Will it function like an instrument without being augmented by a mobile device?**
A: Instead of a mobile device, you can use a computer.  The Artiphon will work as a MIDI controller for a variety of music programs, including Logic, Ableton, GarageBand, ProTools,...

**Q: does it work well for an absolute beginner?**
A: The INSTRUMENT 1 was designed to be accessible for players of all experience levels right out of the box. Beginners are sure to enjoy the piano and drum presets and a very special Artiphon feature – Smart Strum.

**Q: What devices is the instrument 1 compatible with?**
A: While not officially supported the Instrument 1 works well with the Android if you use an adapter for USB A to micro USB (available on amazon).

Allows you to play any instrument you like as you would a guitar and have the midi blocks recorded into Ableton. You can strum an acoustic guitar, a sitar, or a grand piano.Before buying the instrument I hardly touched the guitar but wanted to learn in a way that was totally silent. I live in shared housing with very thin walls. I wanted to be able to play while the person in the room next to mine was asleep. Some say that you can do that with an electric guitar but this is a lot more portable.I didn't know how to play before I got the instrument but after a few guitar tutorials I was able to play along to various songs on the record.My first impression when trying the instrument was that I had made a mistake as it seemed to have a slightly... what's the word... neurotic? response. After doing some firmware updates and plugging it into my MacBook (The Windows software doesn't really work) it began to work a lot better. If you're an experienced guitar player this thing might seem like a quite alien experience but since I was learning to play on this instrument from square one it was fine for me.It's relatively easy on the fingers. Many years ago, when I was growing up, I very briefly tried to learn to play someone else's guitar (I'd forgotten everything since then) but I found the pain was limiting the amount of time I could spend practicing. With this you can play for pretty much however long you want even if your fingers aren't hardened. Despite it being soft to play my fingers have gradually hardened a bit anyway, but this was basically painless experience.I think it's a good thing to buy if you want something that's quite portable and allows you to adjust the notes you pick or strum.

I bought for my son. Had to buy ipad as well for software but knew that when i ordered. PC software doesnt quite do it justice. Ipad software is often free but theres lots out there. Its also very portable.Whe i asked he said he found it easy to start to use but later realised its potentially a very complex instrument..He mainly used to play his guitar, but now he jams with artiphone at his mates. Now hes got guitar violin piand and drums!He loves it.. says so much fun and hes only scraped the surface of what he can do.
