The surface of the metal tip is so rough that once you are able to get it through the fabric it doesn't want to come out. Save yourself the hassle and spend a few more dollars on a different one. I wish I would have read the reviews before I purchased this item. It looks pretty sturdy, until you start using it. The tip is very wide, dull, and tarnished making it really hard to push through the fabric. After a few punches, the needle portion started sinking into the base, making it impossible to use. Not durable or high quality by any means. Save the frustration and order a better quality needle.
